BOARDMAN – Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery Chapel in Boardman, Ohio for Edwin K. Enterline, 91.
He died April 27, at Briarfield at Ashley Circle Nursing Home in Austintown, Ohio.
Mr. Enterline was born June 16, 1920, in Indianapolis, Indiana a son of Samuel W. and Minnie M. Enterline.
He graduated from South High School in 1938, where he played basketball and football.
He went on to graduate from Youngstown College (Youngstown State University), playing varsity basketball all four years under the late Dom Rosselli.
While in the U.S. Navy, Ed played in a game with and for John Wooden, who also was the coach.
Ed served as an Officer in the U.S. Navy in World War II as a PT boat captain in the South Pacific one tour, and a second tour on a Destroyer with Adm. Halsey’s Third Fleet. Ed was a local member of the World War II Heritage Group. Ed worked for and retired from Campus Equipment Co.
Ed was very active in the Boy Scouts of America and was a member of their Mahoning Valley Council Executive Board, Area V Board of East Central Region and International Representative, Regional Board of East Central Region and the Mahoning Valley Council Representative to National Council B.S.A. Ed became Scoutmaster of Troop 30 in Canfield in 1967, and later became Scoutmaster of Troop 60 of the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
As a member of the Pleasant Grove United Presbyterian Church, Ed taught Sunday school for 20 years.
Ed was also an avid fisherman and hunter and was one of the earliest members of the Canfield Sportsmen’s Conservation Club. From 1949 to 1950, Ed was the director of Camp Fitch and was the Boys Secretary of the YMCA.
Ed enjoyed watching local sporting events in Boardman, Canfield and at YSU, and was a Cleveland Indians and Browns fan. Ed loved Polka and dance band music, had a passion for food, had a great sense of humor, and loved to travel, circumventing the world two times.
Ed leaves a sister-in-law, Mary Enterline Courtney; nieces Mary Jane Diehl Heaton (Bill) of Lighthouse Point, Fla., Betsy Weimer (Gary) of Aurora, Ann Kurz (Bob) of Canfield and Patricia Southwick (Jeff) of Pennsylvania; and nephews Jeff Enterline (Monica) of Austintown, Ohio and Bruce Enterline (Marina) of Calcutta.
He also leaves great-nieces and nephews Gregory, Kim, Inga, Kirk, Lindsay, Grant, Jessica, Caitlin, Bethany, and Cory; and many devoted friends of all ages.
His parents; two sisters, Kathleen Diehl and Doris Kelley; a brother, S. Walter Enterline; and a nephew, Mike Kelley preceded him in death.
The family would like to thank the staff at Victoria House Assisted Living, the staff at Briarfield at Ashley Nursing Home, and the staff at Hospice of the Valley for the wonderful care they gave Ed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to either YMCA Camp Fitch, or Hospice of the Valley.
