I would like to find anyone related to the people mentioned below, especially Mrs Reiner Kreps of Nampa, Idaho, as I was told that Hazel Ennes (Mrs. Herman Zupke) was the only surviving child of Walter J. Ennes, and the second article lists her as Hazel's sister.
The following is a newspaper clipping, from about Nov 5 1960:
"Mr. and Mrs. Herman Zupke will be honored at an open house Sunday at their home, east of Evans [in Colorado]. The occasion is their forty-first wedding anniversary. Relatives and friends are invited to call between the hours of 2 and 6 o'clock. The couple asks that gifts be omitted.
Daughters of the Zupkes will be hostesses. They are Mrs. Kenneth Anderson, Mrs. Dorn Brunner and Mrs. Guy Benson, all of Greeley [in Colorado].
Zupke and the former Hazel Ennes were married Nov. 5 1919 at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Ennes, the location of the Ennes Dairy and the Zupkes' present residence.
Except for six years of their married life, Mr. and Mrs. Zupke have lived in this area. They made their home south of Kersey and then at Evans before locating permanently on the home place, where they operate the dairy.
The Zupkes are active members of the Sunnyview Church of the Nazarene, where he serves as Sunday School superintendent. Mrs. Zupke is a member of the WCTU of Evans and a state WCTU officer. Se also belongs to the Auburn Progressive Club.
The couple has 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren."
another later clipping says
"200 Attend Open House:
A reception honoring Mr. and Mrs. Herman Zupke on their 41sr wedding anniversary was given at their home, east of Evans on the Ennes Dairy, Sunday afternoon. The 200 guests attending were from Greeley, Denver, Englewood, Pierce, Carr, Fort Lupton, Platteville, Elkhart Lake, Wis., Pasadena, Calif., and Nampa, Idaho.
Hostesses were the Zupkes' daughters, Mmes. Kenneth Anderson, Dorn Brunner and Guy Benson, all of Greeley.
The daughters planned to honor their parents last year on their 40th anniversary but the Zupkes were away on an annual trip to the Nazarene misson fields in Arizona and New Mexico. They are members of the Sunnyview Nazarene church. Each year they visit the mission at Smoke Signal, Ariz., the Montesuma Indian school at Cottonwood, Ariz., and the Nazarene Indian school at Albuquerque. The take donations from their church and also many things which they give on their own.
Those attending the anniversary party included Mrs. Zupke's sister, Mrs Reiner Kreps of Nampa, Idaho, who arrived just before the party and completely surprised them.
Long distance calls of congratulations received by the Zupkes included one from Sumner, Iowa from cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Zupke, and another from Los Angeles from his brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Zupke.
As the guests came in the doo of the Zupke home, each gave his name and made some pertinent remark. These were recorded as a lasting memento of the occasion. The recorder was operated by the Zupkes' son-in-law, Dorn Brunner. The guests also signed a register which was kept by Mrs. Bob Fahrenbruch, a granddaughter of the honored pair.
The reception table was centered by a three-tiered wedding cake, decorated in lavender and white, the color scheme of the party. It was trimmed with white wedding bells and topped with artificial lavender orchids. The cake was made by Mrs. Lova Davis, retired cateress, long time friend of the Zupkes. Furthering the theme of teh cake were white orchids in ice rings which floated in the punch. These were made by Mrs. Dick Neet.
On either side of the cake, lavender and white candles burned and the color scheme was further carried out in the mints and napkins which were printed with the dates: 1919 - Nov. 5 - 1960.
Mrs Herman Magnuson, a granddaughter of the Zupes, cut and served the cake. Mrs Della Pryor poured from the silver coffee service and Mrs. Ed Lott of Gill presided at the punch bowl. Mrs. Pryor and mrs. Lott are first cousins of Mrs. Zupke. The latter was present at the wedding 41 years ago.
