We are related. Joseph Emmons had two sons; William and James. William's son James married Sarah Peterson Kirk. One of their children was Ephraim. Joseph's son James only had one son; his name was James Strother Emmons and he was my 4X grandfather. He married Catherine Stigler.

James Strother's son Daniel married Lucy Ann Burrage and Eliza Withers Burrage (Lucy Ann's sister-in-law). He had children with Lucy Ann and Eliza. He also had a daughter named Ellen Emmons Crofton, conceived by his brother-in-law Thomas Burrage's slave, Caroline. When Lucy Ann and Thomas died, Daniel married Thomas' widow Eliza. They moved to Mississippi. He purchased Caroline, Ellen and three other slaves from Thomas' estate in Alabama and moved them to Mississippi.
