My fathers mother was Bertha Emde, her father was Carl Emde married Maria Thurman they lived in Wellman, Iowa his father was Charles Emde and he married Margaretha Schwinn I don't have my geneology material with me I don't remember if they came from Germany or that they were born in Germany and came over. As I said earlier, my fathers great grandfather was Christian Emde I do not have a born or died date. His son Charles(Carl) F. Emde born 11/13/1825 in Mengeringhausen, West Germany married Anna Margarethe Schwinn 3/2/1905in Findlay Co, Hancock OH. He died 4/13/1911. Anna Schwinn was born 3/5/1830 in Darmstadt, Hesse Germany and she died 9/1/1891. their son Charles C. Emde was born on 4/17/1858 in Washington Townshi0, Johnson CO. Iowa and married Maria Thurman 2/12/1885 in Washington Iowa he died 3/16/1935 in Wellman, Iowa. Maria was born 4/25/1860 and died 1/22/1938. their son Harry(Puddy) Gardner was born 6/16/1891 married Bertha EMDE 1/1/1921, he died 1/23/1970. Bertha was born 10/9/1896 in Washington Iowa and died 7/24/1980 in North English Iowa. Their son Wayne Gardner (my father) was born 4/8/1923 and married Goldie Burkley 6/8/1950 she as born 8/5/1927 they are both still living. Let me know if this is your family.

The only Emde's I know of in Illinois is a Frederick Emde who was in the 36th Illinois Infantry during the civil war. His wife's name is sarah and they are buried in Kaufman County ILL.
