My thoughts on the Elyea Geneology.
I have traced my Elyea name back to James Elyea, born in Wantage Township, Sussex, New Jersey.
There are hints of the Father for James, but nothing definite. James first born he named Jacob.
I have a strong feeling that Jacob is James's Fathers name, and that it is the same Jacob listed in the 1820 New York Census in Steuben County. Also Jacob was the brother of Henry Elyea which then makes Peter the cousin of John, James, Mary Rachel, and Oliver. Jacob is also the same Jacob listed in the Vernon Township, New Jersey tax roles of 1793. I do beleive that they are all tied back to the lineage of Jan D'Aliee. All the Elyea's of the Finger Lakes region moved to the area from New Jersey during or near the end of the War of 1812 (1812-1815). John to Danby, James to Erin, Oliver to Erin and then to Newark, New Jersey, Jacob to Reading, but late in life, sometime after 1820, was with James. Also Jane Elyea could have been a sister of James and not his offspring. There is also a Rebecca Elyea born 1801 which most likely was a sister of James. She married WilliamAllison before 1823.
So far all I have is circumstantial evidence, but am striving to find the necessary documentation that will tie all these peices together.
If anyone has comments, please share.
Thank you
