Jack,
Most of my "historical" Alliee, Alyea information is based on Alvin Elya's research. I have copies of published papers from a genealogical journal that cites church records from the Schraalenburgh Dutch Reform Church , Bergen County, New Jersey back to Peter Aliee (b. 1692 d. aft 1760, Hackensack, NJ). This would be the great-grandfather of Jan (John) Alyea, that you refer to.
Peter Aliee's father, Jan (Jean) Aliee b. abt 1666 (or 1663) Amiens, Artois, France d. 16 Mar 1717/1718 Duck Creek, Kent Co., Delaware, USA left a Will that notes Peter as his son and sibs that seem to follow the general genealogical pattern that I have seen for this family (and it appears to make sense, both with dates and places and with maternal lines and associations). I also have this Jan Aliee as part of the Dutch Reform Church at Hackensack - so perhaps there are church records to confirm the family lineages. I don't have photocopies of these, but there are references to them.
Agreed, it appears that there is no record of Jan Aliee's father Nicholas emigrating from France (apparently no ship records have been found) - but perhaps the link to Nicholas as Jan's father is from the church records? I am also unclear on this point. It does seem to be a logical connection.
We should correspond further - the Alyea family from Prince Edward County is completely linked with my branch of the Elyeas - and linked back again with the Moon family.

Cheers,
