Can anyone provide information on the Elverd family name origins and any history on the Elverds? What I know is very limited. I can only trace back my family back about 4 generations and there are very few of us in the West of England.
The story I have heard is that the Elverds came to England from mainland Europe with the army of the Duke of Monmouth in 1685 to fight in the "Pitchfork Rebellion" against James II. After defeat at the Battle of Sedgemoor the remaining Elverds settled in Nailsea in the county of Somerset where they have lived near to this day. This may be totally untrue, but it's what I have heard.
I realise there are Elverds in Australia and USA and I have been informed that Elverds were in Ireland, although I am not aware of any Irish relatives.
Any info would be appreciated.
