AUSTINTOWN, OH - Martha May Rodgers, 92, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2015, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.
Martha was born Feb. 22, 1923, in Youngstown, Ohio (Mahoning County) a daughter of the late Lee R. and Ethel Booth Elmes, and was a lifelong area resident.
Martha also worked during World War II at the General Fireproofing Production Office.
Mrs. Rodgers was a charter member of the Boardman Church of the Nazarene.
An active member of the church, she was a missionary, a church secretary, and a Sunday School teacher.
Martha was involved in the Brownies and Girl Scouts, and was co-leader of Girl Scout Troop No. 168.
She was also a senior timekeeper of the WPA School Lunch Program.
Her beloved husband, Stewart Rodgers, whom she married June 16, 1946, passed away Sept. 10, 1991.
Martha leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Susan Ann (Tim) Wingard of Austintown, Ohio; two granddaughters, Kathleen Wingard and Denise (Gary) Meadows; a great-granddaughter, Gabriella Wingard; and a brother, Roy Elmes of California.
Besides her husband, a sister, Betty Brott, and two brothers, William and James Elmes, preceded her in death.
Per Martha’s wishes, private services were held on June 24, 2015.
Arrangements were entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown. Interment took place at Tod Homestead Cemetery in Youngstown, Ohio where Martha was laid to rest next to her husband.
