I was hoping you would have said NY or Ill.. I have an elusive grandparent also with no known parents. His name was Edward Elmendorf born ca. 1855 in either NY or Ill depending on which census you are looking at. I have only found him on two, 1880 & 1900. He was a convicted bigamist having married my gr gr grandmother ca. 1879 (in Claion Co. Pa.) while still married to another woman. They did produce my gr grandmother before he was caught. I found out the information by accident, but it did explain why nobody knew much about him. I believe I have found him in the Chicago area in 1900 census with a new family, or it could have been his original wife. Anyhow he was gone by 1910 and his daughter was married and had her brother living with her. I have been trying to trace these children with hopes of finding a living relative who could help me. I have a picture of good old Edward and he was a handsome man. Who knows perhaps your Rozella is related. If my Edward was also illegitimate it would explain why I can't find him in an earlier census. And believe me I have tried. Kathie
