I wish I had found this thread earlier. My ggg grandfather was Benjamin F. Ellars, my gg grandfather was his son, Carty, and my great grandmother was Carty's daughter, Lillie. I was interested to read the backstory of Carty's parents. It sheds some light on what little I
know about Carty from my grandfather (Lillie's son). Carty apparently became a devout preacher of the Gospel, according to my grandfather. The story my grandfather told was that any time he headed out for a barn dance or skating party as a young man in Decatur, Carty would show up, fall to his knees and pray for his grandson's soul, in his loudest preacher's voice, for hours if necessary, until my grandfather would give up and leave the party. I guess Carty felt he knew a little something about sin and temptation?
I would have enjoyed a chance to learn more about this branch of my family.

Kathy
