Just to bring a little life to the history of Martha Beeton Ella (nee Cheney); her house still stands in Victoria at the corner of St.Charles street and Fort Street.
Now called the Amethyst Inn this great old mansion was built by Captain Ella.

Ella's aunt (the wife of Thomas Blinkhorn) also lived with them at this residence after the death of her husband.Best view of the house on Google maps is by moving the cursor up St. Charles street and looking through the main gate.

Thanks for the information. Yes, I managed to trace Ann's information in BC, but thanks too for updating me on Martha's dates. It is her diary extracts that provide so much more insight. Regards. Ian
Ellah in Elsinor

Hi

I hope that this list is more alive than the people I am researching...

I am researching the family of Thomas Ellah of Elsinore, Denmark. I find that he originated from Market Weighton in North Yorkshire around 1764. His father was William.

I would like to find out more details on Thomas, William, Thomas's mother, and his wife Mary Howe, of who all I know is that we was originally from England.

Does this ring any bells with anyone ?

Cheers
Gerald
Hello Margaret

I'm not sure that I can give you too many answers. My g-g-g-father was Thomas Blinkhorn from Sawtry in Huntingdonshire UK. His first son was Thomas Blinkhorn who married Anne Beeton. They emigated to Vancouver Island, taking over Bilston Creek farm. I guess that you have seen this excerpt from the diary.

If you look at the 1881 Canadian Census, you will find Ann Blinkhorn aged 74, and Martha Ella with details of the Ella descendants (six in all). I would be interested if you have any more info on the Blinkhorn side.

Best wishes

Ian Kemp
