Edward Elkerton – Soldier, and his Gloucestershire family.

Edward Elkerton first appeared in Gloucestershire in the early 1870's as a Soldier in the relatively “new” camp at Horfield, not far from Bristol. He was in fact a Driver in the Royal Artillery.

He later married there, and settled in the Barton Regis area after his discharge. He had many children, whose descendants are alive today.

His origins have now been traced to the Elkerton “lot” of Leighton Buzzard Bedfordshire, who, as has been previously shown, descended for the Elkintons of Oxfordshire.

Previous attempts to trace his pedigree were impeded by inaccurate declarations in his marriage record, and the difficulty of tracing him without the advantage of the census of 1861 -1901.

It is hoped to append his tree to that of the Leighton Buzzard family from which he descended in the near future, when it will be posted to GenesReunited, Ancestry Member Trees and Rootsweb WorldConnect.

Comments, additions and any useful corrections will then be welcome,
