Fellow researchers,

I recently purchased my second great-granmother's death certificate. Her name was Louisa Caroline "Elke" Oelke Brooks. She was born 1-3-1863 in Jefferson County, KY. She died 2-23-1940 in rural Jefferson County, KY. Her death certificate lists her parents as follows:
father: Fred W. Oelke, birthplace Germany
mother: Christina Kruetzer, birthplace PA
(source: Commonwealth of KY, Dept. of Health, Bureau of Vital Statistics, Certificate of Death, Vol 026 Cert 12674 DeathVol 1940, Louisa Caroline Brooks)
I do know that Louisa had a sister by the name of Emma Oelke.
(source: Commonwealth of KY, Dept. of Health, Bureau of Vital Statistics, Certificate of Death, Vol 006 Cert 02990 DeathVol 1967, Emma Gordon)

I've been trying to locate more information on both her parents. I haven't had much luck. Here's what I've found on "Fred Oelke". A Fred Oelke is listed on the 1920 Nebraska Census:
Oelke, Fred, father-in-law, white, male, age 79, widowed, citizenship 1856 in PA, parents and self all born in KY with German as native tongue. Not sure who the head of household is since it's continued from a previous page. Other family members present include:
Blak_____, Mary wife, white, female, 38, married, born in Nebraska, father/mother both born in Germany
Blak_____, Harry H. son, white, male, 13, single, father and self born in Missouri, mother in Nebraska
(source: Nebraska Census 1920, Otoe Co., Nebraska City, Other Townships, ED #131, sheet 5B, Dwelling #116, line 53.)
*note-this would make Fred's birth year around 1841. His age would be 22 at Louisa's birth, good possibility.

Christina Kruetzer appears in the Carroll County, KY Marriages, 1838-1920. Book 2, page 192, lists Christina Kruetzer as bride, John Fremd as groom, marriage year 1860. This would allow three years for Christina to marry again to Fred Oelke, then have her daughter in 1863. As of yet, I've found nothing more on Christina.

I'd appreciate any leads, and/or additional information on this family.

Sincerely,
Sonya Garrett Havens
