Surnames: Eldridge Eldred Lane Root Stevens Conkrite
I'm interested in this marriage. I have an Amos Eldridge married to Elizabeth or Sarah Root Lane. One "genealogy angel" suggested I research a connection with Jonathan Eldridge originating in NJ.

My ancestor is Amos Eldridge, b. abt. 1839, d. 1921, probably in Canandaigua, Ontario, NY. I have one census record in which Amos, wife Sarah and daughters Clara and Flora (my gr-great-grandmother) are living in Victor, Ontario, NY in 1880. Other than that, I have Civil War veterans records that corroborate the family relationship and year of death.

I have no information about Amos's parents except the census entry that states that they are born in "England." I stumbled across Ontario County indenture listings on raims.com for an Amos, Mary and Theodore Eldridge between 1851 and 1855; and a 1950 census that lists Amos and John Eldridge, aged 13 and 9, among the population at the Ontario County Poorhouse in Hopewell.

In the 1880 Victor census, William H Lane is listed as stepson to Amos and his nativity is given as Wisconsin. I have a family keepsake that suggests that Sarah's family of origin is Root. An 1870 census of Canandaigua would support this: a Willie Lane is listed as living with grandparents Chauncey and Nancy Root. A Root family genealogy suggests that William's father may be Daniel B. Lane (b. 1827) born either in Milwaukee, WI or upstate NY. If William's father and Sarah were legally married, her name would have been Sarah Lane prior to her marriage with Amos.

According to the the 1900 US Census of Ash, Monroe, Michigan, Amos Eldridge is living with sister Mary and her husband William Conkrite while Sarah appears to have stayed in Canandaigua living with her daughter Clara and son-in-law William Stevens. In this census, however, her name is given as "Elizabeth." She and Amos are still married, though Amos says it's 28 years and Elizabeth says it's 30.

Any information about Amos and Sarah/Elizabeth would be appreciated.
