Dr. Samuel A. Elbert (1891-1902) was the first Black to be licensed in Indiana as a physician. Looking for living relatives for a memorial dedication.

Elbert was born in Maryland, served as personal servant to Union officers, studied at Oberlin College in Ohio, and attended medical school in Indianapolis, where he held his practice and lived the remainder of his life. Want to share and compare with anyone, and especially wanting to locate living relatives. Any leads appreciated.
