Elizabeth Virginia Burns born and raised by all accounts in McNairy County on September 21, 1846. Her parents Charles and Elizabeth Thompson Burns move there between 1841 and 1844. She is there in 1850 and 1860 on the census around Gravel Hill. Jennie as she was called was there during the time of the dreaded Yankee occupation of McNairy. Story is she whopped one in the head with a gate post and had to go see General Grant in person, because of it. Jennie and James Wesley Elam meet there, court there and marry there on September 6, 1866. James who goes by the name Wes and Jennie buy land there and have a few kids. Ten kid by count and recorded on the 1900 census. With this we have them on the 1870 and 1880 census over in District 9 of McNairy County. We got them over in District 10 in 1910 on a census. Heck in 1920 the census says they live on Main Street in downtown Stantonville. With the death certificate of Wes showing he was married, we can only assume Jennie is still living on February 26, 1925. Noted on Wes' certificate it tells us he will be buried at Gravel Hill and Harkins Funeral Home is doing the burial. We have two tombstone over at Gravel Hill Cemetery. One for him and one for her. Or are they? We even have a picture of her, which is rare.
With all this information - ** Why is it we don't know when or where she died! Where is she buried for sure? This is around 1925. 1925 is not that long ago. We can find papers, obituaries and all kinds of stuff on people back in the 1700's. This is just one little lady in the 1920's, why can't we find where and when she died? It's strange. Any hear say or ideas out there or even some hard evident ???? Soft evident, anything - HELP !!!!!!
