I am also searching for Ela Family, but the names I am familiar with are Israel, John, Varnum, Clarence. If we are a different branch, that would make life interesting. Please contact me. Thanks

Shelby I have this book - if you like I can send you copies of the pages if you give me your address. I also found a place on line to order a paper copy of the book (I have the original hard cover copy) which I plan on doing so I don't destry the old one. I don't have the name of the book store with me at work, but I will send it to you. But I am willing to send you copies of what I have. My mother was an Ela and I am just now starting to get into some of the many papers thatI have. Would like to see if we are related

I am descended from the Parsonsfield/South Conway brach of the Ela family. There is no link that shows how the Fryeburg family ties in... that I have found anyway! Family lore was that they weren't, but how can that be!? Please let me know if you find it as I have always been pretty sure that there is!

According to family lore, Blazo is a french name, the first Blazo originally came from Bordeaux, France, he was supposedly a priest who left France, left the church got married and had a family and settled in Greenland, NH. Census info lists many names similar to Blazo, I believe they are all descendants as the Blazos seemed to dissapear. Other names are: Blaze and Blaxo. Hope this is helpful.

The Fryeburg Elas lived in Conway at the same time as the South Conway Elas, and there even seems to have been confusion of the two families in town records. The puzzle is that William Ela, the earliest one tied to the Fryeburg clan, disappears from town records without comment, and we aren't sure where his parents originated. Good possibility that the Fryeburg Elas acquired this spelling of their name in Conway and that they were, as D.H. Ela said, originally Healys. He did seem to make the wrong connection however when he said this family descends from Joseph Healy of Dunbarton. I've checked that family line and there is absolutely no way to connect that Joseph to Joseph Ela father of William. I wish we had access to D.H. Ela's notes. Interesting however that he also speculated that "Ela" may have been Healy too.
