In the marriage record of two ancestors (James Weems married Mary Hankins on December 12, 1833 in Greene County, Tennessee)one of the names listed as present is William A Ekin with the letters "M M E G" or "M M E C" following the name. I am trying to figure out who William A Ekin is or what the letters stand for. James and Mary Weems later had a son named William A Weems (my grandfather's grandfather) so am assuming that he was named for this man at the marriage. Do the letters indicate a minister of some sort? Thanks.
