I have a missing link that I am particularly interested in - trying to trace the father of James Eke b 1796. I think it was another James Eke b 1775 but need to be certain. Anyway, would love to see the whole Eke history.

I'm in the same position as both of you. I have a James Eke who was born in about 1822 in Norfolk. He married aged 29 at St Andrews, Plymouth. I have him on all censuses from 1851 - 1881, but can't make the connection back to Norfolk.

His father from the marriage certificate was John Eke. The nearest match I've found was born 5/July/1821 in Reepham. I wonder if anybody has a James whi vanished?

My Ekes are sorted out! I thought I would email to say that all the mortar I chipped away at finally yielded its secrets! I finally found out that my g grandfather, Robert James Eke b Hindolveston 1849 was the son of James (1825) and Lucy (Sands)and that James was the son of James (1797) born in Guestwick, but christened in Wood Dalling. He was married to Hannah ? He in turn was the son of John (1765 East Dereham) and Tammy Patfield. John was the son of Peter Eke (1740 East Dereham) and Frances Dorly. Peter Eke was the son of another Peter Eke (1708 East Dereham) and Mary Foulsham. That Peter was the son of Francis Eke (1684 East Dereham) and Mary Lance and Francis was the son of William and Martha Eke. I don't know anything about them except that William died in 1705 and left a will with all his children's names.I attach this info in case it is of use to anyone else out there trying to put their Ekes together! Well done Jane so that mortar wasn't too thick afterall. It would appear our trees separated at Peter Eke (1740) & Frances Dorly. So distant Cousin is it on to the next brick wall? We must be glutons for punishment!! Do you have a transcript of Williams' will or a copy that would be of interest if you have that available.

I afraid your line doesn't gel with mine at this stage. I have a couple of Johns' in my tree but not from Reepham but you must be close to linking to the this main Eke group that we all seem to get too. Keep at it...

I can't remember now if you said you had Aquilla Eke in your tree? If so he was a brother of James Eke? I know someone said they did, but can't remember who - obviously senility is setting in before I even complete this research.

I don't know if it will be of any interest, but my grandfather was Arthur Eke. He lived at 13 Bempstead Road, Walthamstow, UKK.

He worked at the local Junior School a caretaker and physical training instructor.

He died some time in the early 1950s.

To the best of my knowledge there were three daughters, Jessie, Elsie, Dorothy (my mother), a daughter whose name I cannot recall but who died young, and a son killed in the 1st World War serving in the Royal Navy.
