Hi,
I am trying to find William Eke in the 1871 census.
I have his birth certificate: b 9/8/1861 at 5 Castle Street Plymouth to James Eke and Sarah Jane, late Waycott, formerly Lang (I have their marriage certificate - Married March 23rd 1851 at St Andrew, Plymouth - she was a widow). He is named as William EDWARD Eke.
I also have William's marriage certificate from 6th August 1882 to Elizabeth Ann Cole at the Register Office, Plymouth. He is now William HENRY Eke.
In 1881 he is living with his future wife's family at rear of 6 Willow Street, Plymouth (Wm H. Eke)
In 1891 he is listed as born 1862 in Plymouth. (Still Henry)
I can't find a birth for a henry, so I assume that this is the same person, but could do with finding him 1871 to double check ...
Two of his brothers are aboard the vessel Myrtle in the Welsh census in 1871 (Daniel and James).
Somebody has found a William Edwards (b Plymouth abt 1857) aboard the vessel Anne in the Welsh census and wondered if it might be the elusive William having lied about his age ..
Can anybody help?
Mark Dudley
