Looking for family or any information regarding Harold C. or G. EKDAHL b. 9 Feb. 1909, possibly Moline IL (Rock Island Co.) and d. 7 Dec. 1992, Joliet IL (Will Co.). 1930 Census lists a Harold G. One son was named Harold ? Ekdahl Jr., approximate age of 10-12 in 1962. Harold (??) EKDAHL m. Barbara (Burress-maiden) Merrick 20 Oct. 1962 in Joliet IL (Will Co.). My mother was married & divorced previously to Leroy E. SHULENBERG circa 1942-1943, and Charles Forrest MERRICK (my father) in 1953. Harry and Barbara resided in Lockport IL until about 1966, when my mother left Illinois....moved to Corpus Christi TX (Neuces Co.) where she died 26 March 1968. No children were born to this couple, and I do not know if Harry re-married, or where he is buried. Any information welcome!

My ex-wife's family has Ekdahl's from Moline, IL so I was searching on behalf of my son's heritage and found a reference to what I believe is your Harold G. Ekdahl. Here's the obit from an apparent ex-wife of his.

Betty Ekdahl

Betty J. Ekdahl, 92, former 50-year resident of Moline, died Jan. 5, 2000, at a nursing home in Riverside, Calif.

Private graveside services will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Moline, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Lutheran Church, Moline. Memorials to Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association, 919 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 1100, Chicago, Ill. 60611 or to a charity of choice.

Esterdahl Mortuary, Moline, is in charge of local arrangements.

The former Elizabeth Ogren was born Dec. 26, 1907, in Grand Meadow Township, Cherokee County, Iowa, the daughter of Swedish immigrants Augusta Nelson and John Ogren. She graduated from Cherokee High School and married Harold G. Ekdahl of Moline. Early in her marriage she worked for Frank Foundry of Moline, but for most of her life she was a homemaker. Mr. Ekdahl for many years was an organizer with the Sheet Metal Workers Union.

Mrs. Ekdahl was active in PTA organizations in Moline and with Calvary Lutheran Church of Moline, where she was church treasurer.

He died in 1978 and Mrs. Ekdahl later moved to California to be near her daughters and their families.

Surviving are daughters, Marilyn Ekdahl Ravicz, Palm Springs, Calif., and Carolyn Ekdahl Wylie, Riverside, Calif.; a brother, Paul Ogren, Marus, Iowa; grandchildren, Richard Ravicz, Los Angeles, Tanyo Ravicz, Palm Desert, Calif., Simone Ghysels, Pacific Palisades, Calif., Adam Ekdahl Wylie, Riverside, and Victoria Wylie, Sherman Oaks, Calif.; and four great-grandchildren.

Hope it helps. If you have anything on a Marie L. Ekdahl Faust 1905 to 2001 (see the obit I posted on this site) in Moline I would appreciate it. Good Luck. JT

J.T.: Hi, this is Judy Magill.....I posted this querie so long ago, I almost forgot about it! I'm at the library right now and don't have my genealogy information with me, but I'll read through your message again and see what I can find. Right now I'm living in a small town in California, in the Eastern Sierra Nevadas, and when I wrote that querie I was living in Minnesota, where the majority of my genealogy is boxed up, in storage. The person I'm searching for is my step father, and I really cannot tell if his middle name began with a C or G; I just recall seeing that his family was from the Moline area, and the family called him Harry. I'll let you know what else I find, and thanks again!! Sincerly, Judy Magill

Jerry: Hi, this is Judy Magill.......you sent me a reply a while back in regards to Harold G. Ekdahl. Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you, but I've been working on several lines of my family that have been Brickwalls for the last 15 years. The Harold Ekdahl I'm referring to had either the middle initial of C. or G., but I couldn't decipher which it is from it's source, the marraige license application he and my mother filed in Will County in October 1962. I do know that Harold ? Ekdahl had at least 2 sons from a previous marraige, and one is a Jr. Both he and this son also went by the name Harry as well. Harold Sr. worked for the E J & E Railroad in Joliet (also called the "J") and his mother was still alive about 1963-1965. I remember her as having a heavy Swedish accent and being quite elderly at the time. Harold Sr. also owned a home on Janice Avenue in Lockport Illinois when he and my mother were married. I went to live with my father in Indiana in about 1963 or so and the last time I saw Harold Sr. was at my mother's funeral in March 1968.....apparently she left Illinois about 1966 and moved to Corpus Christi, Texas (Neuces County) where she died. I'm still going in circles with the !!!!'s at the Will County Clerk's Office, trying to track down the date of my parent's divorce, which is SUPPOSED to be somewhere in/on her marraige license application to Harold Ekdahl. They claim that information is at the state level, and records from 1962 may be "lost" somewhere between the two agencies.....I know you need to show proof of a previous divorce, but this mess is making me nuts. Good Luck! Sincerly, Judy Magill <juju54_54@hotmail.com

Thanks so much!!! I had a difficult time even trying to reply, as I had to change my Ancestry account options. Anyway, Harold C. Ekdahl was married to my mother on 20 October 1962 in Joliet, Illinois/Will County. I have their marraige papers, but find no reference as to when/where her last marraige was dissolved. County Clerk is no help, I just get the run around that records starting in 1962 are at State offices but will not offer any other help. This year I found the record of Harold's death, October 1992 in Joliet, along with some other records. In your experience, is it always this difficult to locate marraige records.....no living family to consult. Judy

Email me directly with what you have and what you need. If your Harold is the same as mine, he would have been my grandfathers brother in law. I will see what I can find for you. parsnsfmly3@yahoo.com
