William F. Ekblom, 65, of Erie,pa,
passed away Tuesday evening January 19, 2010 at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh following a lengthy illness. A resident of Erie most of his life he was born in Titusville, Pa. on September 26, 1944 a son of the late Garlis and Florence Hancox Ekblom. William was a 1963 graduate of Colestock High and went on to serve in the United States Navy. He worked at American Sterilizer and Steris for over 34 years before retiring in 2005. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir for a few years
He loved hockey games, seek-and-find puzzles, and especially spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include two daughters, Stacey Moonitz and her husband Marc of Cincinnati, Ohio and Mindy Schrubb and her husband Mark of Erie; two sisters, Betty Bond of Erie and Barbara Jacobs and her husband George of Syracuse, N.Y.; and three grandchildren, Tegan Moonitz and Tyler and Sarah Schrubb. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road (corner of East Gore and Pine Ave.) on Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and are invited to services there on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. James Eaton. Burial will be in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the John Kanzius Research Foundation, 1001 State St., Suite 1400, Erie, PA 16501.
