The Ekas line comes from John Henry and Mary B Croyle or Croil Ickes. The name was changed in around 1825 in Buffalo Township in Butler county Pennsylvania. They had 12 children and their son Joseph after getting married and moving away changed the spelling of his last name to Ekis. The Ickes line comes from New York down to Montgomery county..in a town called New Hanover. From there they moved slowly across Penna. Some of the families can be found across Pennsylvania from Montgomery county clear to the Ohio line. Others went into Ohio and spread westward. The spelling changes from Ekiss..Ekas.Ickes..Ekers and so on. And that is only a few of the spellings of the name. My line is thru John Henry Ickes. His father was John Ickes and his Mother was Elizabeth Stambach. John Henry and Mary B Ickes are both buried in Buffalo Twp in Butler co Pennsylvania.
