GRAND PRAIRIE, TEXAS – Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Phillips Chapel COGIC in Hubbard, Ohio for Pastor Emeritus Lucy Mae Eiland, formerly of Youngstown, Ohio who entered into eternal life on Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Arlington Memorial Hospital in Arlington, Texas.
Pastor Eiland was born Nov. 22, 1931, in Phoebe, Miss., a daughter of Ed and Lucy B. Yates O’Bryant.
She married her beloved husband, Henry Lee Eiland, on July 4, 1948.
To this union, 10 children were born.
In 1952, the family moved from Mississippi to Youngstown, Ohio, where they joined St. James Church of God in Christ.
There, Pastor Eiland taught the Bible Band class and served as the church secretary.
In 1982, she became the Pastor of the Prayer Tower COGIC after the death of her son, Rev. Timothy Eiland, who had founded and pastored the church.
She retired as Pastor in 2004, becoming the Pastor Emeritus.
She also worked as a childcare provider for 20 years for the Mahoning County Jobs and Family Services.
At the age of 74, she completed the requirements to receive her GED and also completed requirements for her CDA in childcare.
She was a member of the Interdenominational Clergy Women in Youngstown, had her own radio program on WGFT, and had served as president for the Grant Elementary School PTA when her children were young and was active in various areas in her community.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents; her beloved husband; son Rev. Timothy Eiland; and two brothers, Rev. L.D. O’Bryant Sr. and DeButcher O’Bryant.
She leaves to cherish her memory nine children, Henrietta (Vincent) Cameron of Poland, Ohio, James E. (Loretta), Clement L. (Judy), Ricky (Patricia) and Johnny R., all of Youngstown, OH; and Rev. Roger (Ruth), Joy Frazier, Laletha and Yolanda Eiland, all of Grand Prairie, Texas.
She also leaves one brother, Deacon Johnny W. (Lillie) O’Bryant of Grenada, Miss.; 23 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Pastor Naomi O’Bryant and Mrs. Annetta O’Bryant, both of Joliet, Illinois; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Friends may call one hour prior to the services, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church.
