EICHELBERGER, James "Jim" Walter 94, departed this earth peacefully on August 30, 2013
He was born on July 9, 1919, the son of Byron and Mabel (Hansell) Eichelberger.
He attended and graduated from Pitchin School in 1937, and received both Bachelor of Education and Master of Education Degrees from Wittenberg University.
He taught and was principal for 30 years in the Southeastern School System, retiring from Miami View Elementary School in 1985.
He and his wife, Mary, enjoyed extensive traveling, visiting all 50 states and 36 foreign countries. Their final vacation was a trip on Historic Route 66 in 2006 with their daughter Sally and her husband, Wayne- a gift from his three children.
Jim was a member of the Rising Star Council of Junior Order United American Mechanics, Pitchin Fire Dept., Pitchin Grange, Local, State and National Education Associations, Clark County and Ohio Elementary Principal's Associations, Clark County Retired Teachers, and Sons of the American Revolution.
He was a lifelong member of Pitchin United Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, teacher, and sang in the choir. He also coached Little League Baseball when his son, John, was young. Jim leaves behind to cherish his memory 3 children and their spouses: Sonya (James) Ryhal of Springfield, Ohio, John (Diane) Eichelberger of Springfield, and Sally (Wayne) Adams of Copper Hill, VA; 7 grandchildren: Chris Ryhal, James Ryhal, Sara (Rob) Edwards, Chaylee (Nick) Liberator, Beth Eichelberger, Eric (Christina) Adams, and Justin (Bethany) Adams; 4 great-granddaughters: Megan Ryhal and Olivia, Kayla and Reagan Edwards.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mary (Blue) Eichelberger, parents, and a dear Aunt Nina, who helped raise him.
Visitation will be held from 6-8:30pm on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at JACKSON LYTLE & LEWIS LIFE CELEBRATION CENTER (2425 N. Limestone St. Springfield).
Friends may also call from 1:30-2pm at Pitchin Community Church (5566 Selma Pike, Springfield) with a funeral service to immediately follow at 2pm.
Interment in Garlough Cemetery at a later date.
