Joseph and Anna Eiberger of Niles Center, Cook, Illinois were my great grandparents. My grand mother was the youngest child Catherine Helen Eiberger. She married Robert Barclay Smith in 1918, and my father Wallace George Smith was their only child.
I have some information on the family and many questions about it. For example, I can't find Joseph in the on-line ship passenger indexes. I think I found Anna Teska arriving in NY in 1873, but can't prove this is the right person. The widow Anna Eiberger in the 1920 census says she arrived in the US in 1877. She also reports (if I read it correctly) that she didn't speak English. This agrees with what my father said. For this reason he didn't like to visit his grandmother when he was young. Anna's name is listed as Testha in the Illinois marriage index, however, on the actual document it could easily have been a 'k' and not a 'th.'
Someone posted about one of the daughters named Anna who married Leonard Ohlson. I knew Anna, we called her Aunt Annie.
I'd be happy to share what I have and to get other information on the family. I suspect I'm a cousin to several people who have posted here.
I grew up in Evanston Ill., and grew up in the upstairs apartment in the same house as my grandmother.
I have pictures of some of the Eiberger graves, some death certificates, Joseph and Anna's marriage license and some information from St. Peter's Church in Niles. I also have a picture that I believe is of the family outside their farm house taken around 1890.
There are some questions about an earlier wife as the church records and the marriage certificate of Joseph and Anna is from 1876. At least two of the children, Joseph born about 1867 and Franschiske born about 1870. Franschiske is possibly your great grandmother Francis.
