I am interested in the life of work of Eggeling, a landscape gardener trained in Germany who immigrated to the United States about 1840 (I believe via Bremen). He settled in Richmond, Virginia, where he served a superintendent of parks. During the Civil War he served as administrative assistant to Jefferson Davis. Following the war he moved to St. Louis where he served as superintendent of parks from 1875 to 1890. He apparently died in St. Louis.
