I am looking for the first EGAS immigrant to ECUADOR, probably sometime during the first half of the 19th century. The most likely route was from Holland.

hello, thanks a bunch for answering that message i sent out a few weeks ago. Did you say you knew of a book on egas genealogy! that would be like gold to me. please let me know when you find it and if i can purchase a copy. my maternal grandfather agustin tiburcio egas was born in guayaquil in 1898. His father was Manuel egas. family stories said his roots went back to germany. i visited guayaquil in 1997 but found next to nothing as their civil records were in dissaray. i found the name egas had originated in holland by way of a johann eichas who imigrated from germany and had his surnamed spelled egas when he got to holland. i am believing that one of his offspring imigrated to ecuador and would really like to find this information. i am on the second volume of my family history book and have made the finding of this link to ??? as a priority find. my mother is also very eager to learn more about her roots. thanks, and please keep in touch.

Hi there,

I was born in Quito, and my father's name was Pedro. We migrated to the US in 1958. I am very interested in learning more about what you have found out about our family roots and how we are related. I am looking forward to your reply.

hello peter,
i'm still on the hunt for some last minute info on the egas origin in ecuador. i'm writing a book which is scheduled to be completed in about 3 weeks. what i know is this: my grandfather agustin tiburcio egas was born in guayaquil. he immigrated to the USA in the early 1920's and lived in NYC where i grew up. his father was named manuel egas (sr.) and his mother was named agustina varela who was suppossed to be of native ecuadorian indian decent. i also have names of other brothers, sisters and a couple of uncles of agustin egas. since it was and still is in many spanish countries to use both the last name of the mother and father, it has been difficult finding info in ecuador. when i visited quayaquil about 5 years ago, their civil registry records were in shambles so it was almost impossible to find stuff. My theory is that the egas families in ecuador originated by way of an egas who immigrated from the netherlands (holland). those are virtually the only 2 countries where you could find the egas name in the 1800's. let me know if any of this sounds familiar or if you know more. my email address is rjacquet2@msn.com and my phone# in seattle is 206 547 7026.

Hello, according to my own research the Egas family originated from Portugal. We are related to the Egas Moniz, from which the famous doctor who performed the lobotomy comes. I have extensive records related to my father and family in Ecuador. My great grandmother was an Inca princess with last name Titashunta from Otavalo. Egas have bees associated, with many of the most prominent names in Ecuador families, such as Varela, Chiriboga, Perez, and others. We count in our family Dr. Miguel Egas Cabezas, a famous doctor who the Goverment of Ecuador honored with a special conmmemorative postage. Our grandfather, Augusto Egas founded several hospitals. Among the most common professions that Egas like are Layers, Doctors, and Engineers.
