hello hayley,
i have some info on the dutch egas families but not that extensive. i am mostly searching for the egas person who immigrated from the netherlands to ecuador sometime in the early 1800's. i have a whole list of hardenxveld egas family members who descended from antonij EICHAS who was born in 1761, koln germany. when he immigrated to the netherlands, his name was changed to EGAS. he and his wife dingena van den HEUVEL had 6 children: hendrikus b. 16 june 1797; jan b. 14 sep 1798; leenderd b. 24 nov 1799; leedert b. 22 june 1801; andrianus b. 22 oct 1803; and klaas b. 5 feb 1810. all were born in hardinxveld. they each had kids and it gets more complicated from there but i do not find a woman named heiltje egas. was she born an egas or did she marry into the egas family? anyway, there are a few dutch egas family members who know a lot more about the dutch egas family than i do. i cannot find any of the contacts but a lot of the information i just gave you can be found at: www.familysearch.org
good luck
p.s. if you find out how you are connected to any of the above names, please let me know so i can include you in a genealogy book i am almost complete with.

Surnames: EGAS, TRIGO de EGAS
hello peter,
wow, its been quite a few years since i wrote on this message board. i hope you can still get to this site. i just found out yesterday that the full name of my maternal great-grandfather was VICTOR MANUEL EGAS who was born in Quito, 1874, left sometime in the first decade of the 1900's to Turin, Italy where he learned the priesthood. he came to the USA in 1909 and was naturalized in Texas in 1918. his father was SEVERO EGAS from SPAIN. when i wrote my book the immigration records only had a "VICTOR M. EGAS" and i did not know that this was my ancestor. on another entry into the USA in 1913 Victor came with ROSALIA TRIGO de EGAS and she was going to visit LOUIS A. EGAS where Victor lived in Gonzales Texas. any of this sound familiar? it was my grandpa AGUSTINE T. EGAS, born in Guayaquil 1898, who came over to the USA in the 1920's. let me know if you have any connections with these families. russell (is at rjacquet2@msn.com)

hello kayla,
yes the egas name originated in the netherlands but also in spain and ecuador depending on the time frame. i will be visiting a 3rd cousin on my mother's egas side next week when i visit amsterdam. our common grandparent Severo Egas Andrade came from spain (ca. 1860) to ecuador and some of his grandkids moved to the USA and the Netherlands. there had already been a line of Egas families in the Netherlands who originated from Johan Eichas who came to the Netherlands from Germany in the 1700's and his name was changed to Egas. i wrote a genealogy book which included lots of Egas history called "The Sons & Daughters of Jean Baptiste Jacquet". keep in touch.

i have not come across a woman by that name. your mom would have been born around 1941 and all of my ecuadorian research was before that time. you can try doing a search for ecuadorian baptisms/births for 1940-1942 at this website:

https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/show#uri=http...

if you do find anything that reveals your mother's Egas ancestry, please share that with me. i am searching for my g-g-grandfather's (Severo Egas Andrade) roots from spain and when he came to Otavalo, Ecuador ca. 1860. the Egas family must have made their mark in politics because a street in the NW corner of the city is named "EGAS" street.
thanks,
