Thomas Egan in Wakefield, Quebec 1850's

Surnames: Egan Walsh Flynn
I am looking for information on Thomas Egan and wife Sebina/Selina Walsh of Ireland ? Her name is hard to read in the church entry.

They are list as 'of the parish' of St. Camillus in Farrellton , Quebec in their daughter Julia's marriage entry in May 1850.

Judith / Julia Egan is married to Dennis Flynn. Her brother James Egan is the witness. Julia was born in 1828 in Ireland, and makes her home in Low, Quebec after 1850.

Thanks, CY

Did you find any information? I am wondering if I can help. I am a descendant of Thomas Egan who married Ann Welch. Both were born in Co Mayo, Ireland. I believe both of them resided and are buried in Low, Quebec. Thomas in 1871 and Ann in 1865. I have more information if you think this may be who you are looking for.

Hi,

Thanks for the note. I haven't been able to find a thing for my Julia Egan Flynn.

I did find this year that her husband Dennis Flynn of Co. Mayo Ireland , living in Low Quebec, had a sister Mrs. Ellen Flynn McAndrew living across the river in Cantley. That brings in more clues of Flynns and Barrets down in Templeton Quebec, all from Co. Mayo.

I'm wondering if it will come down to the beta DNA test that ancestry has, when they open it up to the Canadian and Irish market. Is that something you would think to take ? I have an extra one!
My email is cey.email@yahoo.com, I'm in the US.

I've often wondered if my gg-grandmother Julia ( Judith) Egan Flynn is a daughter of the Thomas Egan and Ann Welch family that you have. The French priests sometimes writes her as 'Judith' in the church entries of St. Camillus or St. Martins. The birthyear would fit of 1828, her mother's name is the only thing badly written in the wedding entry as either 'Sebina, Salina Walsh' of this parish. I think they had neighboring farms in low with the Egan/Gannons, there is a Julia Gannon niece. Possible the link is back in Ireland and they are cousins of Co. Mayo.

I also cannot find the witness at the 1850 St. Camillus wedding - Julia's brother James Egan. As you know, your line's son - the James Egan/Rooney couple went to Minnesota. My g-grandfather Patrick Flynn of Low later went to Minnesota to work, marrying Catherine McCormick of Steele Co. I pieced together that his sister Sarah Flynn came down with Ann Gannon to visit, Ann met Thomas McCormick - ( brother of Catherine) and married him, living in New Richland and Dilworth MN. I love the old puzzles. Their early letters of 1800's show them keeping in touch with MN Gannons.

I met a 94 year old woman of the McCormick line in MN a few years ago, she remembered the Egan/Gannon from Stearns and Pope Co. MN bring in the wagons with the wool clip to sell in St. Cloud.

All the best, Catherine

My children's Egan ancestors were Thomas Egan born 1851 Que son of Michael Egan and Catherine Dillion and Elizabeth Fisher and they had a son Michael Egan born 1887 Ottawa and married Annie Price. I would love to make contact with anyone who is also related or who knows anything about this branch of the Egan family. Thanks so much.

Catherine,
I am so sorry it has taken me so long to reply. My parents have all our ancestry on their computer and I need to find a day to go to their house (90 miles away) and see what I can find. I have not forgotten you!

I promise I will find time to do this soon.

Jean,
My dad has a good amount of information about Thomas/Ann's family. Or maybe there is more than one of these names in that area, as I have Ann's maiden name as Welch.

Last year my husband and daughter and I traveled from Minnesota to the east coast of the U.S. and back home through Canada. In advance of our visit, my dad did some research and found another descendant of Thomas/Ann in the Ottawa area. Although feeling a bit awkward, we met with him and his wife. It was like I'd known him my whole life. He took us to Low, where we were able to see where Thomas and Ann are buried. At the time, the headstone was in horrible condition. Since then, it has been lovingly and painstakingly restored (see attached photo). Meeting this new relative and the subsequent visit to the cemetery was easily the highlight of our trip.

I'll see if I can get my dad involved in this thread. He has not been feeling well, so I'm not certain when or how involved he will become. I will try to keep in touch.

Thanks Lisa,

It is great to see that new headstone at St. Camillus, I'd found Bill Egan of Ottawa a few years back, and he was looking to find the best person to redo the old stone. His brother has a horse farm and the land now includes the old Flynn farm from my mom's family in Low, Quebec.

Do you know of the site rooneys-minnesota.com ? It has the Rooney Reporter and is about information of descendants of James Egan /wife Mary Rooney ,and Patrick Egan/wife Elenor Rooney. The two sons of your Thomas Egan and wife Mary Ann Welch wed two Rooney sisters and left Canada for Minnesota in the 1800's. Two of the Egan's Gannon nephews joined them.

When you look at the website, be sure to click on everything, they have the history back to Canada. A new editor Aggie Reed is in charge. I had emailed a Tim Ahles who was editor for a 17 year period. Thin Ahles and another Minnesota researcher Jim Egan knew much family history.

If any in your family of the Thomas Egan/ Mary Ann Welch line are comfortable taking that beta DNA test, I'd be happy to send one that you can attach to your account and have control of. Let me know at cey.email@yahoo.com

Still no progress on my Thomas Egan and Sebina/Salina Welsh line of Wakefield and Low Quebec 1850's.

Happy Holiday !
Catherine Y.

Hi,

Here is an interesting bit,,,,,,,,,,I just had a 4th cousin DNA match with a woman whose ancestors are Patrick Egan and wife Eleanor Rooney who moved from Canada to Minnesota in 1800's. This Patrick Egan is a son of Thomas Egan and Mary Ann Welch of Wakefield, Quebec and Co. Mayo, Ireland.

Maybe my ideas that my gg-grandmother Julia Egan ( wife of Dennis Flynn) was also a daughter of Thomas Egan and Mary Ann Welch. Her church wedding entry in May 1850, St. Camillus, Wakefield Quebec, Canada had her parents as Thomas Egan and a very hard to read Sebina/Salina Welch/Walsh 'of this parish'. Witness brother James Egan.

So far I can't find any records for another Thomas Egan family. I also can't find the Thomas Egan and Mary Ann Welch family on rootsireland.ie pages for Co. Mayo.
