To anyone seeing this, the Effertz side of my family lived in Minnesota down in Assumption Parish, Carver County. The last person to have the Effertz name was my g-grandma, Mary Effertz. Her parents were William Hubertine ("Bertha") Hohn. Her siblings were Maria, John, Lucy, Ceclia, Edward, and one other sister. If anyone is related somehow I would love to connect with you and trade some family history info. Thanks

Hi Greg,
It looks like we have a match! I have a William John Effertz married to Bertha Hohn. Their children are Magdalena, John, Maria Christina, Lucy Agnes, Cecelia and Edward. (Edward died as infant).
William's younger sister Lucy married Christ Schilz, my G-G Uncle.
I would love to trade family history. Email me direct.
Thanks
Mary

Mary, it looks like there is a match. My great grandma is Mary Christina, Lucy's sister. Mary married a Joseph Eckl. They lived in Courderay Wisconsin. Joe and Mary had 5 boys and 1 girl. The 1 girl was my grandma Marion. Of the kids 1 of the boys is still alive. I sat down with him last year and conducted an interview with him about his life and his family. Very interesting. He remembers a couple of things about his parents families and he has a fascinating WWII record having served with the 101st airborne. My family members have some pictures of Mary and Lucy when they were young. I can look over my interview with him and see what he said, if anything, about Lucy.
I can write more later. This is cool to find another related distant distant cousin.
later

Looks like you have mixed up the Lucys. William's sister Lucy is the one that married Christ Schilz. I know that William also had a daughter named Lucy, I belive that you are referring to her as Mary Christina's sister. But at least it's still a connection!!
This is the 1st connection that I have found on my mom's side of the family.
I have a few pictures of headstones of some Effertz that were buried in Scott County, Mn. I plan on going back out there to take more pictures as well as stop at the Scott County Historical Society. Let me know if ther is anyone you would like me to look for.
You can email me at

Thanks

Mary,
Sorry for the confusion. I will check into that at home. I did find some Effertz family history on the internet somewhere going back to the 1700's in Germany. There is an Effertz family reunion that happens in MN down in Carver County. My aunt has gone a couple of times already. I think it's every year. If I talk to my aunt and get a name I can let you know what I find out if you'd be interested. And we are related to them so I am sure you are probably related to them as well back a couple of generations.
I'll have to go back to my records and see what I have on William's family. Do you have a Marie Gertrude Effertz as being William's mother?
Talk to you later.
- Greg

Greg,
It would be fun to go to the reunion.
Yes, I do have Marie Gertrude (Esser) Effertz as Williams mother. I do not have any other info on her though.
Do you know who Lucy married? (Williams daughter)
Take Care,
Mary

Mary, my aunt told me about another relative related to the Effertz's that have the family reunions in MN here. Apparently, William had only one son, John. The lady my aunt has talked to is the granddaughter of this John Effertz. So it looks like we are all cousins of one stripe or another.

Greg I also am a descendant of Christian Hubert Effertz and Mary Gertrude Esser. Gertrude's parents were Johan Joseph Esser and Anna Maria Schmitz. Johan came to America in 1869 with his second wife Apalonia and resided in Green Isle Sibley County Minnesota. They lived in the parcel next to a Peter Esser family that I have not been able to connect to our family.

Hello, so who in the Effertz family is your descendent from Christian and Marie? We are from William John Effertz, #8 of Christian and Marie's 14 kids.

My g g grandfather was Christian Hubert Effertz who was married to Marie Gertrude (Esser) Effertz. He was one of three brothers that immigrated from Germany back in the late 1850s and mid 1860s. Joseph came to America first I think. Then Christian Hubert and Johan Christian came in the mid 1860s. I have to look that up again. Anyway Christian and Marie Gertrude took residence on a farm near Assumption Minnesota in the southwest corner of Carver County in Hancock Township. It was near Assumption Lake. Johan Christian moved to St Paul and was a carpenter. Joseph Christian also farmed close by...not sure where. My lineage - Christian Hubert - John W - William Christ - James Bernard - Daniel Wayne(me) I would so like to see a picture of Christian Hubert if anyone has one.
