Could someone please tell me what nationality/language is the name Efaw? Does it have a meaning? Why do most of us seem to be concentrated around WV?

I have just started researching my father's side of the family. My great grandmother's maiden name was Efaw...Jenny Cornealia Efaw Hile; DOB 10 March 1891; died: August 1958. This is all the information I have on her, as my father died 5 years ago and his sister died 2 months after he did. I understand through stories my sister remembers that my great grandmother was French Canadian. Other than that I haven't a clue. Efaw is not a common name in the US. Have you found any information since you last posted to this BB?

My grandmother was Martha Viola Efaw Chadwick, b. 1883 in Mannington, WV. I was told Efaws came from Wales but have not confirmed this.

Your g gm Cornealia Efaw was born in Franklin Co. KS, possibly Ottawa. She was the daughter of Thomas Efaw and Eva E. Lester. Thomas Efaw was the son of Alfred Efaw and Sarah Ann Moler (my 2g gparents). Please go to GenWeb for the State of Kansas, choose Anderson Co. and then look at the Moler letters I have submitted. My email address is marysueeulitz@prodigy.net. So anxious to hear from you.

Nancy,
I believe your Martha Chadwick is a sister to my grandmother Mary Alice Efaw Cross from Mannington WV. I have seen claims that the first Efaw in this line came from Germany, possibly before the Revolutionary War. I would be happy to exchange research info with you. My e-mail is: lhopp@owc.net

Hello all. My name is Dale Efaw. Son of James Efaw Jr. I live in Ohio. I have also been told that the Efaw's have been in this country since before the revolutionary war. That 2 brothers came over here from Germany. But still the same mystery surrounding the origin of the name. Any Efaw's feel free to contact me at defawspeedna@gmail.com
