Looking for cousins from the Eells family in Central and Western New York. I need information on my gg grandmother Sophia Eells Lyons Baker b 1834 in NY, daughter of Horace Eells. I believe Horace was born in Conn. and moved with his family to Ononadaga Co. NY. His father was Nathaniel. Horace settled in Genesee Co. NY. Sally

I hope you can help. Sophia Eells Lyons Baker b 1832 d1899 Batavia NY: her 1st hus was Silas Lyons making this couople my 2nd g grandparents. ; Her father Horace b1789 d 1872 in Alexander, Genesee Co. NY : Nathaniel b1748 d 1815.

I am looking for pictures and anything written by my 2nd g grandparents. Sophia is buried with her 2nd husband, Lucius Baker in Elmwood Cem. Batavia NY. I don't know anything about Silas Lyons. I do have pictures of her daughter, my g grandmother but none of her or her other children: Frank Lyons and Florence Baker. There should be pictures of Horace and family also. If pictures were taken where are they now?
I've had many brick walls tumble down with my dad's family except for this branch. I looked in the Batavia telephone book 2 years ago and there were Lyons listed so I put in an ad in the paper asking if someone would get in touch with me,-nothing happened. Do you know if there are any Eells still living in Western and Central NY?

Sorry, I didn't mean to get so long winded. Sally

I am sorry but none of those names ring any bells for me except for Nathaniel Eells. I do have my mother's Eells family line. They started out in Plymouth Mass in 1622, some lived in Conn later on and many lived in New York. Several Nathaniel Eells were graduates of Harvard. My ancestor Nathaniel Eells was born in Milford Conn. on Nov. 26, 1677, graduated from Harvard, he was married to Hannah North, aunt of Lord North, prime minister of England.. He died His grandson was Waterman Eells who was a Revolutionary soldier that died in the Battle of Bennington in 1777 but he was on the N.Y. side of Lake Champlain. There are a lot of Eells that were from Pierrepont N.Y and my great grandfather was from Peru N.Y There is an Eells Cemetary in Pierrepont N.Y. Some Eells are buried at the Beechplains Cemetary in Pierrepont. I do know there were a number of Nathaniel Eells but I do not info on them....just my 6th (?) great grandfather. Eells can also be found in Lanesboro Mass and Plymouth and Dorchester. My Nathaniel Eells parents were Major Samuel Eells and Ann Lenthol. Samuel was born in Dorchester, spent his boyhood in England then retunred to America and settled in Milford Conneticut. He founded the Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity at Hamilton College in Clinton N.Y.

I do have a one page listing of my line. Is your Nathaniel the same as mine? I found there that is a book about Nathaniel Eells, one of my cousins had it and also sent me a protrait of him. I found out he had black eyes and that still comes out in each generation. I always wondered how my mother got her black eyes and there is at least one in every generation who has them that I know of. If you Google him there is much info on him out there. I have a lot of info on a 1998 computer that I have not yet been able to retrieve but I hope to one day. I do have a program that I could transfer files from that computer to Windows XP but at the moment I do not have the space to set up both computers side by side. We are doing some remodeling and redecorating. At some point I will certainly make an attempt to retrieve all the info I have on that old computer....at least I am keeping it all these years for that purpose. Why don't you email me and we can talk more about what you are looking for and I can see if I do have info to provide you with. E-me at linda145@centurytel.net. However, I am going away on Tuesday for a couple of days. I am curious as to your line as well. We are descended from Richard Warren of the Mayflower. I am in the process of joining the DAR and Mayflower Society....as soon as I can get all my papers in order.
