Hi Dan

Sorry to take so long, I have been away from researching family history for a while now. I do not have a lot of information on James & Mary unfortunately. I did do a far bit of research into Captain Langdon who I believe was Mary's uncle. I will have a look through my files on the weekend. I followed William Langdon Edwards of which I have a far bit of information on regarding his life around Beechworth/Tarrawingee in Victoria. Thanks for your mail. :)

Regards
Karen.

Mary Lucy Edwards is also my husbands great great grandmother ...thru Lorrimer Pauline. then Beatrice Edwards . then Tobius Edwards. then Mary Lucy.
Dan have you heard the great story of Mary Lucy"s inheritance ?and her running off with the gardeners son ? Beatrice ( who died just 4 days short of 100 years )swore to her dying day that it was true.We also heard from a relative of Mary Lucy living in Perth, who told us the same story.I think she may have passed away now though because she was quite old when my daughter rang her a few years ago. cheers Jenny

Dear Jenny,

Thank you very much for your reply. With regard to reproducing the image of Mary Lucy, we have had success by using a DSLR camera, (which is a high quality digital camera);in reproducing good quality copies of old photos. I appreciate that you may well not have access to such a camera but perhaps you may know someone who does. If nyou were able to access a local photographer, I would be more than happy to reimburse you for any costs. I am so keen to see any image of my great great great grandmother, however, that I would appreciate anything with gratitude.
Kind regards
Danny

Thanks for your complete information about these families. I was able to fine the bio for Franklin Edwards via Chenango Co NY on the internet. I see it mention Franklin Roswell being the child of Thomas and Martha. I quote
Thomas H. Edwards came from Stonington, Conn., ........... He was united in marriage with Martha Wilcox, and to this union were born five sons and five daughters: Almira Eaton; Rebecca Irons; Martha Dye; Franklin Roswell; Theodore; Jane; Sexton; Ellen Church; and Tracy.

All the documents we have about our Roswell give his name as Roswell Randall Edwards, M. D. or R. R. Edwards, M. D. I am confused if this could be the same person. I will keep trying to find some of the other sources you mention. Thank you very much. Ruth Tinker Smith p.s. I am not a member of ancestory and cannot use all their resources.

i've just found a very old message from you. My grand father was Frederick Henry EDWARDS who was born around 1874-1878 in the Stepney/Mile End area of London. I have reached a complete wall on his background before 1891. If he is to be believed then his father's name was Henry. Could there be a connection

Dave Edwards

Hello again,

A. 1850 census Cuyahoga Co., OH has Jamas Eaton near
Dexter Tuttle and Roswell Edwards. Check this since I am not at the library... I have a plat map for James Eaton in Rockport, OH.

B. Cemetery in Old Rockport has James and Almira(Edwards) Eaton.

C. Louisa Eaton b. 1835 m 2. Ezra Torrey. She daughter of Amigra(sic) Edwards and James Eaton(as given off of the Torrey book)

D. James Eaton and Peter Eaton were twins apparently so the family went from CT to NY to OH to Seneca and Henry Counties.

E. They keep marrying known people. Ransford Morton Torrey went back to Chenango County, NY from Armada, Macomb county, MI to marry Minette Heady(Eva, Franklin, Thomas, Paul Edwards line). See Bio of Franklin Edwards via Chenango Co., NY on the internet. I'm trying to piece together how Louisa Eaton met Ethan P. Allen. The Torrey and other surnames went through Henry Co., OH before going to Macomb and Allegan Counties, MI. (Plainfield/Conway, MA.
I have a copy of plat maps from there and the names seem
to overlap. The Ezra Torrey line is from around Williamstown, MA.) Royal Eaton is listed on the 1860 census in Eaton Twp., Lorain Co., OH. He would be a cousin to the Eaton line I need.

This is all very interesting. I wondered why the religion entered on the marriage record was Baptist. Until I learned Franklin and All went through Allegany Co., NY. Ethan and Louisa were m by Lathrop Cooley in Ridgeville, OH. There are 2 Ridgeville one in Lorain Co. and one in Henry Co.
The extended family was connected with Hiram College at one time.

Almira Edwards(Thomas, Paul) born circa 1814 m. James Eaton and is listed in Dover/Rockport, OH. James b. 1812 (William, Ebenezer) of Chenango County, NY. Roswell, her brother, was in OH. The extended family went to MI eventually.
Thank you so much for this information. What do you have that tells you Almira's brother is Roswell? Are you saying Almira's father was Thomas and grandfather Paul? Where did you find that? Thanks again. Ruth (This is my husband's family. Been at a dead end for years. This is a real breakthrough.)

Jephat Edwards

I am a local historian of Beccles.
In 1805 and 1807 Japhat Edwards was listed in the Poor Rate book of Beccles for a property in Blyburgate, Beccles. It was probably the Crown Public house (now closed) at 60 Blyburgate,- although the building still stands.
In the baptismal records of the Parish Church of the town (St Michael's) there is a baptism of Jonathan Edwards, son of Japhet and Elizabeth (Letly), born in April 1802. There is no record of their marriage in the town, nor the deaths of either of them. By 1814 the property was in other hands, although he was a witness at a wedding in 1803 and signed his name with a cross.
