Thank you Marge! My purpose is to do a true genealogy for my mother's maternal (Edwards) side for her 83rd birthday (I did her paternal side for her 80th). Every fact I use is backed by a minimum of 2 pieces of actual documentation (other's trees do not count).
Not only is our family definitely not related to those contesting the Trinity Church lands, that whole lawsuit (which I only learned about while researching) is patently absurd. For one thing, a stronger case, which I did know of from a guided tour of Tribeca in NYC had precedent, was dismissed so this Edwards one never had a chance. (see below)
If you come across anything about a Tory Thomas Edward from VA, please pass it on so I can research it- Thanks! & let me know what you're stuck on so I can do the same. Thanks- Leslie Michelle
Scope and arrangement of the Bogardus/Trinity Church land dispute beginning in the 1830s.
?The Warner Family genealogical research papers consist primarily of the notes and correspondence generated by Mildred Warner Nunn in the course of tracing her family's lineage, as well as an assortment of collected family papers dating from 1633 to 1920. Genealogical research includes a master chart tracing the ways in which the primary families are related, as well as files on individual family lines of Arrowsmith, Longstreet, Messler, Nunn, Shumate and Warner. The collection also contains a small amount of research by Nunn's grandfather, Leonard W. Warner (1834-1913). The family papers include 17th, 18th and 19th century documents, some in Dutch. The papers are primarily legal including wills and land grants; many are related to the Bogardus/Trinity Church land dispute beginning in the 1830s. There is also a scrapbook containing family memorabilia from the 19th and early 20th century compiled by Mildred Nunn.
The Warner family genealogical research papers are arranged in two series:
I. Genealogical research
The research compiled by Nunn includes a family chart encompassing the Warner, Longstreet, Baker, Shumate, Arrowsmith and other related families. Also included are individual family files, which contain notes, correspondence with institutions and individuals related to genealogical research, and copies of clippings. The research compiled by Leonard W. Warner includes notes tracing the ancestry of the family from 1630 to 1830 and a notebook with copies of documents detailing the Trinity Church land dispute.
II. Family papers
This series contains 18th century copies of legal documents; original Dutch legal documents (1653-1678); a list of family marriages, baptisms and deaths ranging from 1640-1780, possibly copied from a family bible in 1780; and a selection of papers related to the Trinity Church land dispute. The series also contains a scrapbook containing family photographs, certificates, and samplers dating from 1810 to 1920. Also contained in the scrapbook are copies of original documents.
