Looking for siblings of Edward H Edwards b1803 in Stokes Co to Edward Edwards mother unk. Thank you Pat

my gg-grandfather was Edward H. Edwards born abt 1841 in stokes co. n.c, he was born to Squire Madison Edwards. - i have not confirmed this - but Squire possibly had a brother Edward H.
Squire was born in 1812 in stokes co. to John Henry and Elizabeth Barnes. I do know Squire had a bro - Robert and possible other sibs were John (Nancy DeJarnalt), Peter, William (Martha Cain), Daniel (Mahala Stephens), Abel, Edward and Gus

Kathy thank you for your reply. My g grandfather was William Millis Edwards born 1849 in Stokes Co to Eliza Edwards and father unk Edwards?. I am not sure Liza was married I have not found a husband in the census.His obit in 1940 did not list mother or father, there is no death certificate to be found for him.I was told he may have a connection to Edward H Edwards. Eliza was born abt1819-1821 in VA.Any help you can give would be great. Thank You, Pat

Pat, this is a tuff one. When I was looking for my Edward H, I found 3 of them in Stokes Co. 2 had been in the civil war (south) one i believe was the son of the other one. My Edward H was born in 1841 to Squire Madison(Sam) Edwards and Jane Darnell. Squire was b. in 1812 to John Henry Edwardsand Elizabeth (Barnes). Squires family moved to Richmond KY. Squire had a son William M. His other children were Martin, Squire, John, Auguste, Daniel, Betty, Tempest, Mark, Ann and Margaret. Squire also had an Uncle Edward who would have been born abt. 1794 (?) in orange co.nc Squire may havealso had a brother named Edward, but i have not comfirmed this.
My Edward H. married a girl named Lucy he fought in the civil war (south) the other edward also has a civil war record (south) I will try to find my records on him. they will come together at some point. let me know if any of this rings a bell, kathy

My grandfather was Norval Ralph EDWARDS, b 1846 IN d 1909 IA. His father was Abel EDWARDS, b 1810 NC d 1895 IA. Abel's spouse was Lucy BENNETT. Lucy's parents were married in 1814 Stokes Co, NC. These families and several others migrated to Monroe Co, IN in the late 1820's - early 1830's. In about 1852, Abel and several other families migrated again, to the Lucas-Warren-Clarke tri-county area of Iowa.

Could my Abel be the brother of Squire that you mentioned? Or
was that Abel only a 'possible sibling' that later was retracted.?

I have no info on Abel's siblings or ancestors. Abel's name "may have been Joseph Abel." His father's name "may have been Joseph." A Nancy EDWARDS had a patent dated 1841, for land next to Abel in Monroe Co, IN. She could have been his oldest child, b 1835, but I have doubts. There were several other EDWARDS families in that area that were probably related.

There was also Nancy EDWARDS, m Joseph PENNINGTON in 1827, IN, and I think the same one was living near Abel in 1850 census. I'm guessing that this was Abel's sister. Or close cousin. Strictly a guess. This family [at least some of the children] also went to Lucas Co, Iowa.

One of Norval's brothers [Abel's son] was Edward Hanagan EDWARDS, b 1849 IN, d 1931 IA. Edward Hanagan had a son Edward Hannigan EDWARDS b1886 IA.

Was the "H" for 'Hanagan/Hannigan' in any of the "Edward H." 's of yours? Could these have come from the same 'root' as mine? The appearance of all the Edward H.'s in these lines makes me think they are related somewhere back there.

Any info on the family and/or ancestors of my Abel would be greatly appreciated. Even a hint would be great.

Hi Ralph,
I can not be sure about Abel.He could be a brother, cousin, (even a possible nephew) I have not been able to verify him.
I do know one of Squires children went to Kansas, one went to Indiania (Daniel)I also have a Joseph as a possible brother to Squire.
The only brother I have been able to verify is Robert.
The others - John, peter, William, Daniel, Abel,and Joseph - has not been verified.
There is another Edward H Edwards is Stokes NC - he is older then my Edward - but he is related. Sorry I cann't be of more help. I will keep on trying to find him.

1820 census of Robertson Co., TN - Springfield:
John EDWARDS 100010-30100 John is 26-45 and his wife is 16-25. The 1778 birth date given for him does fit within this range.
He is listed on the same page as Oliver EDWARDS, p. 15.

1830 census of Robertson Co., TN:
John EDWARDS 00011001-00010001 John and his wife are both 50-59. The age for his wife does not agree with the 1820 census in which the oldest female is no older than 25.
The family is listed on the same page as Oliver EDWARDS.

I believe John died after 1830 and before 1837. (My Opinion)

There is no mention of John in the Will of his father, William, in Robertson Co., TN in 1837.

Hi Ralph, In everything I have found - Abel seems to be Squire's brother. However, I cannt confirm it. I have not found any birth record - but I really haven't spent much time on it. The only confirmed Brother I have is Robert.
Other brothers would be John, Peter, William, Daniel, Abel,Edward and Gus.
