The Edsall Family of Welland, Ontario, CAN:
I found in the 1790 NY Census for Warwick, Orange Co. that the Hedges families and the Edsall families are listed next to each other.
These families included Sylvanus and Abraham Hedges and Richard, Richard, Jr., and Peter Edsall. The parents of Richard Sr., born in 1722 in Hackensack, NJ, were another Richard Edsall, who was born in 1683 on Long Island, and his wife Hillegonda DeKay.
Early claims to land in Humberstone, Welland co., Ontario, CAN, include one by Peter Edsall who obtained land in 1794 in Humberstone, Lot, 30, Concession 1, and another by James Edsal who renounce his claim in 1797 for Lot 15 in Concession 1 along Lake Erie.
I am trying to determine the families associated with Hannah Edsall born in 1797 in Ontario who married an Unknown Mr. Hedges who was born in New York. Hannah Edsall owned property in Lot 29, Concession 1, of Humberstone, which was next to Peter Edsall’s lot.
I am guessing that Hannah was a daughter of Peter Edsall.
The Edsalls and Hedges of early Warwick, Orange Co., NY, must have been connected earlier or later then 1790 or both.
Lot 29, Consession 1, in Humberstone, is next to the Welland Canal.
My great grandfather William C. Putman was an “uncle” to Martha Ellis of Bay City, MI, who I understand was a daughter of Amelia Ellis the daughter of Hannah Edsall Hedges of Humberstone, or Port Colborne, Ontario, CAN.
I am guessing that the following is an appropriate line for the Edsall Families of Welland, Ontario, CAN:
