LeRoy Edie Memorial services for LeRoy "Roy" Edie of Grass Valley will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, at the Nevada City Chapel of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary. Mr. Edie died Tuesday, Dec. 21, at Golden Empire Convalescent Home in Grass Valley. He was 91. He was born March 20, 1913, in Pawnee City, Nebraska, to Andrew and Minnie (Shaw) Edie. He lived with his family of nine siblings in the Pawnee City area until he met Alice Havlicek. They were married July 17, 1937, in Marysville, Kansas, and lived in that area until they moved to Northern California in 1942; then they moved to San Leandro in 1950, and then to Grass Valley in 2000. Mr. Edie worked at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, Calif. He was a member of the Automotive Machinist Union and the Teamsters Union. He retired as a driver for Garrett Freightlines Inc. in 1978. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, always caring for his family. Mr. Edie was a hard worker and went out of his way to help others. He loved to play pool, poker and go to Reno with his son. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Alice Edie; sisters, Ruth Morrin of Fitchburg, Mass., and Nadine Wymore of Pawnee City, Nebraska, and brother Thomas Edie of Hastings, Iowa; sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Diana Edie of Grizzly Flat and Dennis and Marcia Edie of Grass Valley; grandchildren, Julie Ullom, Jason Edie and Patrick Edie; and great-grandchildren, Kris Edie, Katie Edie and Nate Ullom. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Minnie Edie; sisters, Jessie Edie, Bessie Slack and Lola Clark; brothers, Don Edie, Lavon Edie and Vernon Edie; and granddaughter Katherine Edie.
