I just found a new online bookstore that gives away FREE SEARCHABLE CD-ROM with the purchase of any family history book, they have over 20,000 titles to choose from, I just tought that I will pass it along to you.

I am trying to find sources for William Edgell being the father of James C Edgell. We all know they are father and son but.... I can't find a good source citation for this or for that matter one for William being James and Mary Ice's son. Anyone know a good book that lists these people in it?

The other day I was in the cemetery that Pinkney is suppose to be buried in and I couldnt find him, but I did find his brother William Edgell. The cemetery is terrible, it's all grown up. I'm going to try to find out who owns it because I want to get it cleaned up.

I have a Henry Edgell b 1820, who it was believed left this country for America sometime around 1859. However, it is possible that my Henry changed his mind and got on a boat to somewhere else! Do you have any information about date of birth or where?

Henry Edgell - left Liverpool on "Shooting Star' on 10 August 1859 and sailed to New Zealand - then arrived in Australia some time after that - looking for more info about him and his parents

I also have a John Wesley Edgell. He was born in Vermont in 1812 and died about 1875. His wife was named Martha Jeanette Johnston Edgell and was born in South Carolina on Sept. 1, 1824 and died in Mc'Allester, Oklahoma in 1911. I don't suppose these are the same men...but maybe there was a connection somehow before that time. How far back do you go with your John Wesley Edgell? He is the end of the line for me and was my great-great-grandfather.

My name is Peter Edgell. I am descended from John Wesley Edgell b. 1812 in VT and died abt 1875. He was married to Martha Jeanette Johnston b.Sept.1, 1824 in South Carolina;d.1911 in Mc'Allester, Oklahoma. They are my great-great grandparents and are as far back as I can go in that line.
I would greatly appreciate any information you can give me to extend that line.

I have ordered the Y46 and the matrilineal tests. I won't be home until sometime late in August or early in September to take the test. I have asked several times if you have any information on John Wesley Edgell. I think I had the wrong date of birth. It appears he was born in 1829 in Vermont. I am looking for the name of his father. He may have been John J.A. Edgell, born in Vermont in 1803. Garland, do you have any information on those people?

Hello Garland, Now that there is a half-price sale for the DNA test, I am more motivated to go ahead and do that test. I have heard that I am possibly related to Sir Richard Edgell. I don't know if it is possible to add a person's name and then go forward from there to see if he is a relation. Do you have Sir Richard Edgell in your tree? How far back does the Edgell side of your tree go so far? Mine only goes back as far as my great great grandfather John Wesley Edgell who was born in Vermont in 1812. I will let you know when I have purchased the DNA test.

I may eventually be interested in that. I am mainly trying to find any connection to John Wesley Edgell born in 1812 in Vermont. I want to take it back to his parents and grandparents.

thomas and ellen edgell was my mother's uncle my great uncle. he died here in canton ohio. his violet,jimmy and bobby and a child that died can remember. but i remember playing with violet went she came to visit hood and edith edgell, if you are his family you have loads of family here in this area.

My name is Peter Edgell, Descended from John Wesley Edgell Sr. born in Vermont in 1812. His son was Robert Burns Edgell who had a son named George Calmes Edgell. My Great Grandfather and grandfather.
Do you know anything about that group of Edgells? I am interested in finding out the names of Edgells going farther back than John Wesley Edgell.

Ward Edgell was my gggrandfather, son of James Goulden Edgell and Phoebe Starkey. Ward was born 04/03/1874 and died 04/03/1958. He first married Martha Horner as I stated in previous email and then Anna Hatfield Glover. I don't have a Hood Edgell in my line and am curious if we are talking about two different Ward Edgell's and if so where are connection is?

I got information from a Mary Lou (Barker) Edgell from Smithfield, Wetzel County, WV. Her husband is a descentant of Allen Edgell and she is a descentant of Rebecca Edgell (Allen's sister). If you need any information let me know.

I found how they are connected. What's your email so I can send you what I have? David Trader was known as “Pugeshashenwa” or “Cat Pouncing”. He was the son of Tecumseh, which is Indian Billy's nephew. Tecumseh parents are Pucksinwah & Margurite Mary “Methotasa” Ice (Indian Billy's sister that got kidnapped and married an indian). I'm not sure what cemetery they are buried in. I might have it somewhere I'll have to look for it if. If I do I will let you know. Here's a site that you might want to check out.

This is an excellent opportunity for other Edgell men to have their Y DNA tested and compare with others in the EDGELL and EDGIN groups. I just recently was contacted by a gal whose ancester was John Qunincy Adams Edgell. He was born 15 Aug 1802 in Vermont. Could this be your guy? He was areverend and died in Burlington, VT on 15 Sep 1864 or 1869. I could put you in touch with her if you think this is your ancestor.

DNA Testing - Anyone interested?

Ancestry.com now offers Y DNA testing to help genealogists prove male ancestral lines. Several of us have done the DNA testing and have started a couple of Groups on Ancestry. One is EDGELL and the other EDGIN. The Y DNA for two individuals have been found to be identical proving a male decendancy link for the two surnames.

We are very interested in stimulating interest in the testing for other individuals such as anyone who has a proven decendancy from Benjamin Edgell, Sr. or anyone in England which would prove or disprove that the Edgells in the US came from there.

Please give this some consideration.

Thank you for contacting me. Unfortunately my information is exclusively about the Edgells who descend from the Maryland branch. I would assume the Vermont folks come from the MA branch. I did some research on the line of Stephen Madison Edgell who was a wealthy merchant in St. Louis in the 1800's. He was born in Westminster, Windham, Vermont on 14 Jul 1810. He was the son of Able Edgell and Susanna Holden. Abel was born in MA. S. M. Edgell had a brother John but I have him as born on 5 Aug 1802.
