I find it interesting to note that many corespondents refereed to Edge name in the mid 1800. And the sires mentioned do not include South Carolina. In fact the Ancestry map shows the major concentration to be Ga. I have always thought S.C. was the original U.S. home of the Edge name.

In years past I researched the South Carolina Edge family and was able to trace back to 1776 Daniel Edge of Panther Creek, Horry County, SC.an adult who owned property so obviouslythe Edge family had be in America for some time. If you care to pick up this thread the Horry County Historical Society in Conway can be of great help. Of interest we had two governors of New Jersey who bore the Edge name Walter Edge and Walter Edge Jr. After entering the Senate of the U.S.the Edge Act (off shore banking) was written.

Edge is a challenge to research as Edge name was derived from a geographical origin i.e. edge of town, hill, cliff, etc. Theoretically the name could apply to people in various location spontaneously.

This is meant to be some tips for searching as much of the above is on line. Good searching. Hope the above is of value.
