Your oldest known ancestor was William Eddins 1 (note spelling). No one knows when he arrived in America, but based on some legal proceedings, land transactions, etc., my best guess is that he arrived here about 1700 from England. He was born circa 1662 (my guess) and died 1732 in Spotsylvania Co., Va. His wife was Rebecca Haws, who I estimate he married circa 1686-87 in England. They had 5 children (4 boys, 1 girl). The boys were William 11, Theophilus, John, and Thomas. Your ancestor was son John. John and his descendents went by the name "Edens", while the rest were Eddins and Eddings.
Son John was born circa 1690 (my guess) in England and died circa 1848 in Manikintowne, Va. No one knows his wife, but I feel she was Elizabeth (maiden name ??). They married circa 1714 and had at least 2 children , sons John and Alexander. Your ancestor was son John. After about 1748 nothing more is known about son Alexander.
John Jr. was born circa 1715 (my guess) and died after 1773 in Buckingham Co., Va.. About 1740 he seems to have lived with his uncle, William Eddins 11 in Orange Co. , Va. (Orange Co. was formed from Spotsylvania Co.) His father , John (born ca 1690), was in Manikintowne and his mother (Elizabeth ??) apparently died in the late 1730's. Circa 1742 John Jr. (ca 1715) married Agnes (maiden name ??) in Orange Co. and they had at least 4 children: James , Alexander, John, and daughter Frances.. Your ancestor was son Alexander. About 1750 John Jr. (ca1715) moved his family from Orange Co., Va. to Buckingham Co., Va. He died there after 1773.
Son Alexander was born ca 1746 (my guess) and married Molly (synonym for Mary) (maiden name ??) circa 1770, probably in Buckingham Co.. She died circa 1815 in Pendleton District, S.C.. Then Alexander married Mary Meers 11/16/1816 in Pendleton Dist. Alexander had moved his family from Buckingham Co. to Pendleton Dist. circa 1780. In 1825 Pendleton Dist. became Pickens Co., S.C. Alexander and Molly had 8 children. Alexander died in Pickens Co in 1835.
Following Alexander's death, Mary Meers Edens was in Union Co., Ga. as late as 7/15/1853.
One of Alexander's sons was William.. He was born circa 1773 in Buckingham Co. and died 6/1834 in Franklin Co., Ga. Circa 1791 he married Martha Yowell, possibly in Pendleton Dist. and they had 9-10 children.. Martha was born 12/5/1774 in Va. and died 1/1/1859 in FranklinCo. One of their children was your ancestor, Lucy Edens.
Lucy was born circa 1811 in Franklin Co. and died 4/29/1951 (or 1852 ?) In Gordon Co., Ga.. Circa 1832 she married Aliver Cromwell Wyly, possibly in Franklin Co. and they had 8 children..
I guess this is all I know about your Lucy Edens' family.. Bob Eddings.
