Over the past few years at various places on the internet, there have been postings that purport to trace the origin of the Eddings/Eddins in America to the Edens/Eden line in Durham County, England. There has been a notable lack of documentary evidence to support this assertion. I have recently completed some research into the records of Durham County that casts considerable doubt on that assertion. I have a short paper on the subject (in Word format) that I would be happy to send along to anyone who is interested, especially anyone who might wish to comment, refute or add to what I have written. I also have a second short paper that looks at surname analysis to suggest an alternative origin in England, further south.
