Gilbert J. Eckstedt, 94, formerly of 224 Dearing Ave., Jamestown, died at 1:18 AM today (May 29, 1987) in WCA Hospital. A lifelong Jamestown resident, he was born June 24, 1892, in Jamestown, a son of Carl & Caroline Eckstedt.
Eckstedt had been employed by Art Metal for many years & was a US Army veteran of WWI. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church & Earl Morley Barracks, Veterans of WWI.
Surviving are a daughter Beverly E. Preston of Voorheesville, NY; a son, Duane C. Eckstedt of Cupertino, CA; 4 grandchildren: Kathryn Jones & Paul Eckstedt, both of San Jose, CA., Stephen Preston of Stamford, NY, & Megan Preston of Hyanis, Mass.; & 2 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Edna F. Johnson, who died Feb. 7, 1987; 3 sisters; Ellen Swart, Anna Stromdahl, & Ebba Norberg; & a brother, George Eckstedt.
The funeral will be at 3 PM Monday in Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Harley G. Rusch, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 3-4 PM Sunday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
