Dear Alice, I haven't heard anything from you since October 2006! I'm pleased that you have taken up your research again. In your last communication you said that you had only just started and had a lot yet to do. Izaak was my g.g. grandfather. He had a son Jan Hendrick who had a son Edward Robert Nelus who had a daughter Rose who is my mother. Your ancester Cornelius was also known as Albert who married two Lawrence sisters.
How did you get hold of Izaak's marriage certificate and Caroline's birth certificate? Any chance of copies of them and Cornelius's painting?

Best wishes

Harry

ECKHOFF FAMILY

Jeffrey Eckhoff, son of Edward M(erle or Meryl) Eckhoff, searching for his connection to the Eckhoff family. Edward, was born in Petersburg,IL in 1922. His father was Albert Eckhoff and mother Anna (Bell). Little information known except what has been provided by Illinois Soldiers and Sailors Children's Home, Normal, IL, where Edward became a ward at the age of 2. According to the state records, mother, Anna, was ill with t b and Albert deserted the family. Edward lived at ISSCS until joining the navy. He served in WWII ,was honorably discharged. He married Jeanne Granger Eckhoff, in San Francisco, CA. Edward worked at State Farm Insurance Co in Bloomington,IL, and in Lincoln,NE. where he passed away from cancer at age 26. Jeffrey was born 11/28/1945, He was 5 years old when his father died. I am very interested in suggestions on how to connect with the Eckhoff family. Very little to go on, as a result - my husband is the first and last in this Eckhoff line - Any direction would be helpful. My husband and his father (from looking at pictures) both have dark hair, Jeff is about 5 ft 8.

HEY - All you Eckhoffs...

This might not interest you, but a forgotten branch of your tree you lost a limb. The following message was delivered to me by e-mail today... From: "Alfred Getty" ahgetty@sbcglobal.net
Freda "Jackie" Evers, 95, died this morning, June 24, 2008 at a nursing home in Ellinwood, KS. Services are not yet definite but are expected to be Friday, June 27 at the Peace Lutheran Church, Albert, KS. Jackie is the youngest daughter of Johanna "Hannah" Ekhoff Evers - an older sister of John and Herman Ekhoff. Jackie was the last survivor of Hannah's 17 children. She lived in the Evers farm house built by her father for more than 90 years until she moved to the nursing home. She was hostess for many family gatherings of Ekhoff's and Teten's held at the Evers Farm, because Johanna was unable to travel. This leaves Kay, May Belle and Christena as the only surviving grandchildren of Johann and Margaretha Ekhoff. - Submitted by Stan Barnhill, gr-grandson of Johanne Folkerts and Johanna Catherina (Eckhoff) Evers. Have a nice day.

Eckhoffs in Illinois area

Heye (Jürgen) and Wilhemina(e) (nee Freidrich) Eckhoff from Holtrup, Ostfriesland (East Friesland?), Prussia, Germany Two of thier daughters, Philippina (Bina) and Margret (Maggie), married Peter Redenius in Pea Ridge, Brown Cty, Illinois. I believe the two sisters had another sister named Anna she married Anton Leerhoff. Possibly a brother Jürgen? This during the late 1800's.

Does anyone have anything in common with this family? I don't know how to find out when they came from Germany. I'd like to know about any other children.

I have some info on John Tetens family and some of their children. If you would like, I can see if our families somehow connect. The Tetens in NE say that if you are a Teten with a connection in NE you are related somehow. Karen

I remember reading about a Teten marriage, in Nebraska I think, and contacting someone from that family. Perhaps it was you. I may have been informed at the time that there Tetons involved. I think the different spelling made me conclude they were different families. However there is a Carol Teten in the San Francisco Bay Area who I believe might be related. The Tetons have had various spellings over the years, and her ancestors --or her husband's -- came from the same part of the world as mine.

Best regards,
John Teton

I have found a little more info. on the Teten family. One is that they spelled it Teten from what I can tell now. I have met family in NE that says it is Teten. Do you have connections with my family tree or just another Teten wandering around? Karen

My first inquiry was triggered by a misspelling in a wedding photo caption that appeared in a newspaper, identifying a Teten as a Teton. Even though Johann Teten looks analogous to John Teton, the lastest information, connecting to roots in Ostfriesland, suggests that it's simply a spelling similarity, rather than a blood relationship. I'm aware of no Tetons with connections to Ostfriesland or elsewhere in Germany.

Thanks for the additional information, which has been helpful in clarifying the situation.

Fred and Emma farmed in Montgomery County, Illinois and had four children, Harold Homer Fisher (1905-1974), Mildred Augusta Fisher Fite (1907-2001), Hilda M. Fisher Cade (1909-2005), and Grace Elizabeth Fisher Allen (1916-1992).
