I am trying to find any connection to the Eckart family. The name has many spellings: Acard, Ecker, Eker, Ekart, Aker, Eckart -- just to name a few. The ancestor I'm looking for is Joseph Eckart. His name may have been spelled Joseph Eaker. We believe that they were from the area of Lincoln County, North Carolina. In some of the information I have, it says he served in the North Carolina Continental Line(Army Regulars). He lived lived in Hawkins County of the State of North Carolina on land deeded to him 16 November 1790. (Hawkins County was at that time the Eastern part of what later (1796) became Tennessee. Here he lived until 1812. We believe he was relater to Peter Eaker and Christian Aker of Lincoln County, NC. We believe he had 5 sons and 2 daughters -- Christian, Joseph, Moses, Henry and Jonas and Christina and Sally. He married Frances Stroup(Strop) or Fanny. We believe they moved from Tennessee (NC) to Harrison County about 1812. We find them on the 1820 Census. I am specifically trying to find information on the son, Christian and his marriage to a full blooded Cherokee Indian by the name of Mary "Polly" Braidy (Brady).
