I am trying to establish whether the Oliver George Eccleshall, who was killed in 1915 while fighting in the Great War was my mother's uncle. She had never heard of him till I started researching our family tree on "Ancestry". The military records don't give a date of birth and the memorial at Loos lists the soldier's age as being unknown ( our Oliver George Eccleshall was born in Birmingham in March 1888). We are hoping that the Devonshire Regimental Musuem in Dorchester will be able to help us, but I was also wondering whether anyone else has any more information, family stories etc?
many Thanks
Jackie

Hi Jackie,
Not sure whether you ever confirmed the details of your Oliver George or not but I can definitely say he is the one and same person who was killed in 1915.
Lots more Eccleshall family details available if you want to get back to me or see...

Bernie,
Thankyou for your reply. My parents had a very interesting ( and moving!) visit to the Devonshire Regimental museum in Dorchester. It seems that many young men from Birmingham ended up in the Devonshires. The Regimental museum did not have any personal information for the Oliver George they had on record ( no date of birth/ address/ next of kin etc.)but we had pretty much come to the conclusion that this has to be one and the same man.
I have a more updated family tree under the user name expat66. I wonder if you have any more info. on the Eccleshalls in our family tree? Regards Jackie

Hi Jackie,
Have Oliver George's ancestors back to mid 1500's.
I can send details if you contact me via my email address on my profile (see previous message).
I have been with Ancestry since it started but membership has lapsed as there is nothing new there for me now so I am unable to see your tree at expat66

Best wishes
Bernie

Hello Will,
Have been through all George persons on my files but can find no connection with those you mention or indeed Notts or Leics. Sorry.

Bernard
