My grgrgrandfather was Friedrich Wilhem Ecarius. He was born in Lippenhe,Prussia in 1802.He and his wife and 3 children came to America about 1857.His children that came with him were Franz, Wilhelmine and Emily. They settled near the town of Saginaw, Michigan . The spelling of Ecarius is not the same but many immigrants changed the spelling after they arrived. Hope this is of some help to you. Sincerely,Doris Kennard

I am wondering if there is some connection. The name Ecarius is not all that common. My father and his father grew up in Saginaw Michigan. My fathers name was Edward, so was my grandfathers. My grandfather died sometime in th 50's before I was born, so I never knew him or any other relatives from that time. When I was in school one of my distant relatives researched the name and came up with a prussian background. Now I don't know who did this research, my family is not close, my mother does not remember.Any info I can find would be very helpful.

Surnames: Ecarius Lafayette Morrow Coveneau
Your grandfather, Edward Ecarius, married Ida Lafayette 10-1-1898 in Saginaw. Ida is the daughter of Dominic Lafayette and Victoire Moreau dit Duplessis[aka Victoria Morrow]. Dominic Lafayette is a fifth generation descendant of Louis Javillon dit Lafeuillade who came from Limoge France as a soldier to Fort Pontchatrain in Detroit in 1712 and there married the daughter of the King's interpreter to the Ottawa nation, a woman one half Ottawa. Their descendants have remained in the Detroit area to the present day. In fact Ida's father was born here and altho he died in Saginaw, his body was brought back here for burial. I will be glad to exchange further info in exchange for 1. a list of Ida's children, and 2.Some explanation of how one Mr. Pottry fits into Ida's life. I saw the name in the Saginaw obit of her mother, then Victoire Quevillon [aka Victoria Covenauw in the obit] in 1908. Hope to hear from you !!!
