Ebanks in the West Indies
I am researching this unusual surname, it is always just outside my tree, but never very far away. I am also seeking Bent, Barnet, Falconer, Gordon, Hamilton, Staple and Myers. If you have relations with any of these surnames and connections to St Elizabeth, Jamaica - then please reply to this forum.

My great, great grand father was called Stephen Ebanks. He was originally suppose to have come from Scotland. I am trying to compile a database for personal use, of as many as possible family members who have descended from him. He lived and died in Barbary Hall, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. He had children called Ellen(Bent), Stephen jnr, Frances (Levy), (Emma), (Dove), (Pigeon), (Birdie). I am trying to trace Stephen snr back to Scotland. His first wife was called Ellen. His daughter Ellen married a Edward Bent. A couple of their children married or lived with people surnamed Myers.

MY GRANDMOTHER IS BERTHA MYERS WHO LIVES IN QUEENSBURY. SHE WAS CALLED BENT BEFORE SHE WAS MARRIED. THE PROJECT I AM DOING INVOLVES CATALOGING AS MANY AS POSSIBLE THE DESCENDENTS OF MY GREAT GRAND FATHER STEPHEN EBANKS. HIS DAUGHTER ELLEN MARRIED A EDWARD BENT AND MOVED TO QUEENSBURY YEARS AGO. wHERE THEY HAD MY GRANDMOTHER AND HER BROTHERS AND SISTERS VIDA, LOUISE (LYNCH), EDWARD, TEENETH, ARTHUR etc. THESE THEN HAD CHILDREN, GRAND CHILDREN AND GREAT GRAND CHILDREN. IF YOU KNOW ANY DETAILS ABOUT MANY OF THERE DESCENDENTS LET ME KNOW.
(I AM ALREADY IN CONTACT WITH MANY IN MY FAMILY)

Hello J.G.W.,
I've read your messages on this site and Geneology.com. You seem to know a bit more about the Ebanks family history. I may not have much more to add, but here's what I know; my father's family is from St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. His father's name was James and his mother's name was Ida. I've heard that my grandfather was half white, but through a history book I bought in Jamaica the area should have German descendents. I know the name is Scottish. My father has sisters named Linda, Lucy, Carmen, Ula, Enid and others-about half living throughout the U.S. I have a copy of the Jamaican directory listing all the Ebanks. If you want it, tell me how to send it. Please keep me informed with what you find out. Thanks.
