One question I have is the year of their marriage. I had 30 Sep 1848. Their first daughter, Ella, was born around 1849.
Mary's parents were Phineas Eastman Jr. (b. abt 1798) and Sarah B "Sally" Whidden (b. abt 1799). Mary's siblings were: Coggswell, Caroline (b. abt 1828), Simeon, Josephine (b. abt 1832 and m. Aziah Hoyt [Hoit], Albert, and Persis (b. abt 1831).
I am still doing research on this family so it may be a while before I get more.

W. H. EASTMAN in 1800's Corinth, Maine

Hello. I went to a meeting of the Chelmsford Genealogy Club (MA) last night. The speaker was Dick Eastman of the "Eastman Genealogy Newsletter." www.eogn.com

He talked about how to better use Google during your research. One of the things he mentioned is that he has a brick-wall Gr-Gr-Grandpa. He was Washington Harvey EASTMAN of Corinth, Maine (Penobscot Co.) I think he said he lived in the late 1800's.

I just checked the Lists and Boards, and I don't think Dick has posted queries here. So, I wondered if anyone had any information that I could send to Dick (and surprise him).

Thank you for your time.

Betty (near Lowell, MA)

(I don't have EASTMAN on my family-tree.)

(My main research of 15+ years is mainly on KIDDER, WILKINS, RICE, HUTCHINSON, CROSBY, etc.)

further to your email, an obit for Bruce Hadden Eastman, 94, a resident of Albuquerque, NM was just posted a few days ago, and I did the research back and he leads back to the early Eastmans, Richard Eastman and Molly Lovejoy, Jonathan Eastman & Hannah Green, Thomas Eastman and Deborah Corliss and to the root Eastman in NA, Roger Eastman.

Would you happen to know the spouses of Helen, Betty Jean or Blaine. Nancy married Simeon Eastman, s/o Benjamin & Rachel McEwen.

I have no spouse for Hannah, so I would be interested in her family downstream, so to speak

Thanks

Pat Kincade

Well, for what it's worth, my grandmother and grandfather Eastman moved from Nebraska to Boise, ID. Here's their family:

Guy S. Eastman (c. 1875) + Lula Hadden (b. 1883)
-Bruce H. Eastman (abt. 1915)
-Helen Eastman (abt. 1917 - 1950)
-Harriet Eastman (abt. 1918 - abt. 1930)
-Henrietta Eastman (1918-1993)
-Betty Eastman (1922 - )
-Blaine Eastman (abt 1924 - 2001)

My mother was Henrietta Eastman (as above). I don't know if this info will help. There are also several Eastmans in the local Seattle, WA, phone book. You could search for those directories here at Ancestry.com.

Hi,
I was just wondering, was your father William Warren Eastman of Maine? I was doing work on my Eastman line (my mother was Henrietta Virginia Eastman), and saw that there are 8 family trees with William W. Eastman's name in Maine. That would be a good place to start - by contacting the owners of a family tree. This board is also a good start.

Good luck.

Obiturary of Bruce Hadden Eastman - dod June 23, 2009.

Bruce Hadden Eastman, 94, a resident of Albuquerque, NM and Salida, CO passed from this life June 23 after a brief and unexpected illness. Father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Bruce was a child of the depression, taking on what proved to be a life long practice of caring for his family. During the Depression, Bruce’s father of six was forced to move to various communities in Nebraska trying to find work in the banking industry. Bruce contributed to the family income as a paper boy, grocery clerk, handy man. A drafting class in high school provided the skills for him to illustrate a book for a college forestry professor and led to his love of the outdoors as well as a career path in forestry. As a Civilian Conservation Corps volunteer, his drafting skills enabled him to map much of the country around Fairplay, CO. It was during this time that he began to sketch forest scenes and old buildings encountered in his work. In time Bruce became a well-recognized artist whose fall cottonwood and old adobe winter scenes grace many local businesses and homes.

Bruce worked his way through Colorado A & M (now Colorado State). It was here that he met his wife of more than 60 years, Mary R. “Bobbie” Fuller. After graduation Bruce and Bobbie were married and moved to Ft. Defiance AZ where he was employed by the U.S Forest Service as a forestry adviser to the Navajo Tribe. He enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1943 working primarily in camouflage design during his active duty years. After discharge from active service in 1946, he served many years in the New Mexico National Guard, retiring from the Armed Services in 1974 with the rank of Major.

After his discharge from the Army, Bruce and Bobbie raised their family in Albuquerque where he worked for both the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. After retirement, Bruce and Bobbie moved back to Colorado living in Salida for more than twenty years. During this time they traveled, he painted and they entertained family and friends. He and Bobbie returned to Albuquerque to be near family when Bobbie’s health began to decline. After her death in December 2000, Bruce elected to maintain his own home, managing his own cooking, shopping and cleaning. He provided visiting great grandchildren (who lovingly called him Fav), the best pizza and Jell-O lunches imaginable. He was a humorous, artistic and gentle man and will be dearly missed by all of his children and grandchildren.

His daughters Judith Eastman Meyners (Richard), and Jane Eastman Schuman (Walter) of Albuquerque survive Bruce. Grandchildren are CH (MAJ) Eric Richard Meyners and Lois of Ramstein Germany, Brenda Meyners Sears and Lon of Bow Mar CO, Noel Meyners Harris and Alex of Omaha NE, Walter Bruce Schuman and Cody of Portland OR, Marney Schuman Powell and William of Temecula CA. Great grandchildren are Gustav, Mason and Elsa Meyners, Trent and Kara Sears, Zoë and Sophia Harris, Zane, Titus, Levi and Sullivan Powell. Also surviving are sister Betty Lowe and niece Darci White.

A Gathering of Friends and Family is planned for the morning of July 24 at the Villa Serena Club House, 1379 Wagon Train SE from10:00 to 12:00 am. Friends may call at any time between those hours. Private graveside services will be held at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe NM where Bruce will at last rest next to his beloved Bobbie.

Should friends wish, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Ministry Center, Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, ATTN: MCEUL-CH/Chaplains Office, CMR 402, APO AE 09180 (check donations payable to IMCOM-E CTOF-WW) or Heifer International.
Based on census records Caroline's first husband was actually John Carothers. He died and she married Nelson Eastman. Caroline's maiden name was West. Her parents were Joseph and Emma Mary Needham West. That is the family that I'm researching. I'd be glad to exchange information.

Interesting Eastman pictures you have on ancestry.com. Although not directly related to the Eastman family, they are the "Step-family" of my great grandmother Marinda Anna Reed, and am interested in tracing and recording the Eastman line as part of my family history. I record the"step" side in my family.

Marinda Ann Reed (1860-1919) was the only child of William Hellier Reed and Delphina Taylor. When Delphina died, William Reed remarried Mary Diedamia Eastman, a daughter of Alva Schofield Eastman and Sarah Johnstone. They had one sone William Hellier George Reed who died shortly after birth in 1875, just three months after the death of his father.

Mary D. Eastman eventually remarried Charles Robinson Shaw and they had at least three children.

Mary D. Eastman was a sister of Charles Eastman -- from what I can see, you are on that line.

I am trying to trace to living generations of the Eastman family who may be able to assist me in updating the Eastman line for my records. I have not been able to determine if Marinda Anna Reed kept in touch with her step-family, except that I noted that when she married Richard Tanner in 1881, the marriage certificate is signed by a witness "Sarah Eastman" who was probably her step-grandmother Sarah Johnston, the wife of Alva Schofield Eastman. You can see this on my genealogy web site at:
http://www.jimlow.com/genealogy/minnie/chapter_3.html
So it appears some of the Eastman family was present at her wedding.

An interesting fact: My great-great grandfather William Hellier Reed first married a descendant of an American Revolutionary soldier, then married, second (Mary D. Eastman), a descendant of an United Empire Loyalist.

Jim Low
jimlow@applewriter.com

She was born in Maryland about 1854, in 1930 she was living in Florida with her daughter Anne Twigg Wilson and her husband Milton. In the 1935 census I could not find her. Not sure if she died or just moved away. Her parents were Simeon and Matilda Wilson Eastman. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I agree...i think she's samuel's daughter as well. She married george Johnstone (b 1800) and had sons JAMES JOHNSTON, b. Abt. 1832 and SAMUEL E JOHNSTON b 1848, and
daughters ANNE ISABELLA JOHNSTON, b. Abt. 1841.
and MARY ABIGAIL JOHNSTON, b. Abt. 1843 (m. HUGH KETTYLS, 05 Dec 1866, Carleton, ON, Canada; b.
Abt. 1838, Ireland) and MARGARET A. JOHNSTON, b. Abt. 1846 (m. THOMAS MILBURN, 11 Jun 1874, Snowden, Haliburton, ON,
Canada; b. Abt. 1848, ON, Canada).
Hugh and mary were my great grandparents...they stayed in Marlborough twsp for about 15 years, then moved to Blenheim, kent County, Ont and ultimately went west as homesteaders to Alberta in 1898-9 (along with their 7 children and mary's brother Sam). They settled in Beaumont Alberta.

well, that's precisely the problem: I know her "downstream" connections (spouse and children)but not her "upstream" (parents, siblings) ones. I have her date of birth and the fact that she was born in Canada from a census, but that is all. I am fairly confident that Nancy Eastman is her younger sister, as she appears in Hannah's home on the 1851 census (placing her dob at roughly 1835-6).

Thanks, that is actually my "prime suspect" as well, given that they lived in the area and have a younger daughter Nancy Eastman (who appears on the 1851 census as living with hannah and george).

Eleanor Eastman's family is not mysterious. Her maiden name was Eleanor (or Elinor) Allen, b. Abt 1715, Salisbury, Essex Co., MA; bapt. 12 Jun 1715.
9 years later: I have found you! Regarding the 1910 census. Daniel Engle was my greatgrandfather. He was married to Lyman's (Leman on that census) daughter Rose Bell on Dec. 23, 1899 in Burnett Co. He and my grandmother Lydia May and her brother George were living with them. He was listed as married, but I have no idea where Rose was. They are listed in the 1900 census incorrectly as Engte. I know that he later married a woman named Emma and they lived near Hertel, WI in the 1950's. If this helps, or you want what little info I can give you, I'm at momdurkee@yahoo.com. I'm just getting into this stuff. Linda L.
The reason you may be missing Dave and Mary Stevenson is in the spelling of their last name. You will find Dave and Mary Steverson and all their children in the 1900 US census in Carter County, city of Graham, in Oklahoma.

You will find Dave and Mary Stephenson w/ two of their youngest children, and Dave's Mother in-Law (Aggie Sam)in the 1910 US census still in the city of Graham, Oklahoma.

Dave's wife (Mary Eastman, Stephenson) is the Daughter of (Aggie Eastman Sams) Aggie Eastman Sams, is my ggg-grandmother.

Aggie Eastman was enrolled in the final rolls as a Choctaw Freedman, and enrolled again as a Chickasaw Freedman, she has a duplicate enrollment which is a matter of record. She was enrolled as Aggie Eastman Roll No. 4928 and Aggie Sams Roll No.2663. All of which has been confirmed.

I hope this info helps you in your study.

uncleduck1
