Trying to make the link between Frederick Eargle and John Michael Ergle Sr.
Starting with John Michael Ergle we know he landed in 1752 in Charleston, having sailed from Rotterdam. From his petition for land we see that he had 3 children with him Mary Eve age 24 (born ~1728), John Michael age 22 (born ~1730) and Michael ~13-1/2 (born ~1739)
Now comes my confusion... I have John Michael Eargle Jr. as having married Rebecca Schaffer and Mary M Amick, but I've seen other trees with John Michael Eargle with a Caterine Freshley. Those with the second information have a son for John Michael Eargle Jr. married to Rebecca Schaffer and Mary M Amick.
Question #1 - is there any proof as to which is correct?
We have Johannes Ergel and Michael Ergle listed on the 1788 Signatures of Petitioners for St. Jacob's Church for Membership in Ecclesiastical Union.
http://dutchforkchapter.org/html/st_jacobs.htmlThe Rev Verley L. Fulmer Papers (Vol 2) - lists John Jacob Eargle as having married a Miss Freshley and having a son John Ergle who married Rebecca Shaffer and Mary Magdaline Amick.
Looking at the 1800 census I see a John Arighel who would be between 26-44, a Jacob Ergal who would be between 26-44 and a Michel Ergal also between 26-44.
The 1790 census also mentions a John John Aragle and a Michael Aragle.
So I guess I'm getting bogged down on all the Johns, Jacobs, and Michaels in the Eargle family. Can anyone shed some light?
